Pulling my motor this weekend and want to do something different, my 56 is going to run ceramic coated fenderwell headers , a tunnelram with 2 /450 holleys & a Mr. gasket scoop , cal custom polished valve covers , 15x4 cragar ss rims with 165x15 tires ...No straight axle for now . I put some new 60 chevy hd springs in it with ball joint spacers to get the front end up, Car will most likely always be primer with a hole thru the hood .I picked up a set of 65 goat buckets & a 14"gold/brown metalflake steering wheel . Dont know if I'm FN nuts but was thinkin about painting the block gold......what do you guy's think ? Be honest with color choices ....I dont want to hear " its your car do what you want"...but everything I have always done was chevy orange & I want to be different.......

"It's your car do what you want"... how's that...??? (Besides that, you can't hear what I'm typing anyway...!!!)

Now that that is out of the way, paint it gold...use an acrylic enamel or urethane...only problem with light colors on an engine block is it'll show grease and oil real fast...go for it...

    R-

PS, I painted my 500" Caddy engine purple....looks killer...!!!

You know in 56 the 265 was red. Since you want to know, I personally don't like gold engine's. You asked :D

I think it would look in gold. Go for it!
The '56 car engines were not orange, they were red.

Considering the application, gold would look good. I wanted to be different as well so I went with silver.

I'm of the thinking that the color of the engine should compliment the color of the body, regardless of make of the engine.

  9. I use Aervoe's cast iron grey metallic, and it's looks very trick and mechanical looking

  10. And I think the 265 in 55 was something else.....like yellow maybe

I don't too many people get real anal about it these days like the machine shop guys in Waco did when I wanted to paint the block and heads on the 283 for my T Cat yellow. That was in the early 70's and I caught so much hell I finally painted it orange. Had to check the photo to make sure what color it had been.

The hard core tri 5 Chevy boys might give you some crap but no one else will much care as long as it looks like you did a hell of a good job putting it together.

    57 265's were yellow,maybe some truck engines also .

  14. gold would look killer. please take the extra time to grind off the rough castings on the block & heads. makes such a huge difference in the end.

I love Gold engines. Gonna paint my Inline that color. That silver engine looks pretty sick too. I like the idea of Copper mentioned above. That would be pretty tuff!

  19. I like black. Doesn't compete with the shinny stuff and can't see the leaks.

I hate Chevrolet orange and paint all mine Ford red (including Ford Engines). Red also complements my yellow coupe.

AMC silver blue metallic with white headers.

    That's just me though... ;)

  25. I agree. AMC in the late 60's had an XLNT blue for their motors! Caravelle Blue

I like orange, just not Chevy orange. I went with a MOPAR "Hemi" orange....more brown to it. Then again, I'm incorporating orange into the final paint job.
