This build is for Brigrat here on the hamb. He has always wanted a 36' roadster and so we got talking about it and I mentioned that I could make him one out of a 4 door and the back section of a 5 window. He had a 4 door, and my buddy had the 5 window back section so this ought to be fun :)

I will be using my buddies original 36' roadster for all my patters to convert the cowl top of the doors and above the trunk.

Hope you guys enjoy! And Lon I hope you are as excited to do this as I am.

Straight axle up front? Wide-fives? Flatty?

Excited to see what you do with this one.

Is the flatty going into this one Lon? It would be a perfect fit with a set of Navarro heads and a Thickstun intake...

I think you should make multiple copies of the door tops, cowl tops, and rear passenger opening plus whatever it takes to make a closed car dash an open car one.. I think a guy could make a small fortune selling "5 window to roadster" conversion kits. I wonder how hard it would be to get top bows made?

I am sure it will be an awesome build, just like all the others, but I am somewhat disappointed in the fact your not going to completely morph it from the 4-door. 5 window rears ends aren't that plentifull or cheap so the thought of building the roadster completely from the 4 door was giving me false hope....
Can't wait to see the build anyway though!

You can buy new bows from Superior Auto Parts. The tough part will be to get the correct dash.

With your outstanding fabrication skills it should turn out great.

Are you going to build it with wood or will it have reinforcments in steel?

Open to any mild custom rear tail pan & fender idea's, post pic's if ya gotem!
Motor combo? Looking for a blown flatty, multy carb Caddy, Buick nailhead or a baby Hemi that I do have.
Front suspension may not be hamb friendly, kicking around many idea's though.

I am totally opposed to cutting up ANY '36 Ford. Creating an amorphadite bastard from an old sedan that someone could restore, and ruining a 5W coupe in the process. Save them for someone who appreciates them and will preserve them.

I have subscribed to this thread if only to hope to save another Ford from Hot Rod Butchery. ;) And hoping I can get some ideas for the next one I find. All I need is a cowl, a pair of doors, and an old hood...

Sounds lilke you need more than that.

  29. Is the plan for 100% accuracy, exactly as per Henry, or just a good looking rod body?

There are lots of differences between the Roadster & coup/sedan bodys. The doors inner steel structure is shaped totally different not including the wood, the front door jams are shaped different plus the roadster has wood uprights, the rear door jams are shaped different & has wood uprights plus the lower casting support, door latch mechanism are different & in a different location , door hinges are in different location, of coarse the door tops are totally different, cowl top is different & has wood underneath , the dash is different. The rear body wrap around that the top anchors to is 10 gage plus more. I do have a original 70k mile 36 roadster here plus a 2/3 roadster 1/3 coupe & a coupe that is being converted to a accurate roadster & my avatar under construction. Doing an accurate roadster conversion is time consuming but building a coupster is a lot less time consuming. Hey Boyd did it in 14 days or less it must be tru they showed it on TV & the TV shows never lie Danny.
