Projects 27 roadster build photo journal

About a year ago I took John Kelly's metal bashing course down in moclips but tonight I actual got around to trying some test bashing because I need to make my patch panels for my 27. Here is is my first effort at a test panel with a small piece of scrap steel a Harbor freight bead roller and a hammer. I wish i had an English wheel!
Now I have to get the turtle deck back and make some for real

 

I have lots of sheet metal work on the sides but I had to put the 49-50 Pontiac lights in the re-popped rear from Howells and mock it up.

no its 40 bucks just for the skin

The wedding ring branding (lump of weld fell on my wedding ring)




jewelry and welding don't mix in the summer i was welding
in flip flops and shorts and leaning in the trunk, my nipple ring
caught on a screw and as i jerked back after welding i ripped it clean out.

Damn, maybe I should call first, the web site says $145; but $40 would be a Hell of a deal! I got door skins and cowl patches from them, nice parts. I went and picked them up at the shop where they make them. I have heard some bad stuff about Howell's, but they did me right.

This build rules man, true super hero stuff. If ya end up needing a Corvair steering arm I got it covered. Let me know

 

I spent hours putting a crown in the trunk useing only a hammer a dolly and a shrinking disk.
After fitting it to the frame flat, what a nightmare!
So i went and got a cheap HF English wheel for next time.

Nearly got all the pieces made the rear sides are rusty and raggety so i started on some patch panels.

One down one to go. Going to be ready for paint soon.

The other side needed some compound curves to replace some rotten metal

You did a great piece of work, in a home shop, reproducing those wheel wells. Now that you've done that the car deserves a more graceful rear cross member cover. Keep up the good work it's looking good.

 

I hear ya i am getting better and better at this metal shaping thing its been a big learning curve. I am teaching myself how to do stuff as I go.
I may even attempt a complete body after I have finished this car just to hone my skills

Saturday I went to the swap meet but the only old thing I found to buy was a never used still in the blister pack electronic ignition made to add on to a points car and run from original points. I Put it on the wife's Studebaker when I got home and it improves starting and running of that tired old V8.
So i got something new with the cash burning a hole in my pocket I need a battery for the car soon anyway.
I got a Optima battery disguised to look like and old battery.
I know its in the trunk and you wont see it but still they say its all in the details.

 

Go for it! I will be starting on my 34 LFD roadster pick up in the next few months, can't wait!
