First DRIVE-IN Movie ever watched...

THis one is to everyone who remembers their first Drive-in Theatre Experience.....For me and my twin bro (JokerJason),it was STAR WARS, 1977-1978, at the Midway Drive-in, in Arcata, Californai!!! Had bad dreams about a GIANT R2D2 outside my house for weeks as a 4 year old!! Bless my parents!!!!

 

LOL, I remember it distinctly. My parents took me and my cousin to see One Million BC sometime in the mid 60's. Even as a kid, Raquel Welch was...memorable

 

Its a mad,mad,mad,mad world.

well growing up my parents were always taking us to the drive in I didn't see a movie in a theater until my grand parents took me and my brother to see smokey and the bandit and slap shot a double feature on new years eve 1977 i believe. the drive in we went to the most was the memphis triple and the auto twin in the cleveland area it seemed like we would go every weekend i remember my dad would cover the side windows with blankets so we couldn't watch the smut on the other screens. the first movie i remember seeing i think was dirty larry crazy marry i am sure that was not the first one but that one sticks in my head the most or roller ball seen alot of great movies at the drive ins jaws,gumball rally.etc.. I keep the tradition going by taking my daughter every chance we can it's still as fun today. thxs great post it was fun

 

Went to the Silver Dollar drive-in in Albuquerque NM, went to the other 2 or 3 there drive-ins in Albuquerque too, don't remember any of the pictures that were playing!!!!! That was a long time ago, mid to late 60TY's. Was stationed at Kirtland AFB at the time.

 

I'd been to a bunch but I think the first one was Smokey and the Bandit with my pops.

I don't recall going to the drive-in as a child,,my folks called them passion pits,,when I got my license and started driving and date I went to them all the time but don't rememberl watching any movies.

As a teenager there were 3 Drive-in's in town,,The Fox,,HWY 29 and my personal favorite the Skyway,,the people that owned it were cool.

Sadly,,they are all gone,,my kids grew up in the same world I did but now instead of the Skyway,,there is a Super K-Mart,, HRP

 

Well I'm gonna tell my age now. First drive in movie I went to see was Jailhouse Rock. I was about 8. Must have been about 1960

 

For me it was Magnum Force with Clint Eastwood as "Dirty Harry" This was late '73-'74ish...... Maybe it was in late '72??? Who knows????

 

I don't remember the first one I ever saw, but we went to a lot of them. Cheap entertainment for a family of 8. As young kids; PJs, blankets and pillows camped out in the back of the family station wagon to watch the movie.
When I got to be about 13 or so the drive-in in town was only showing porn flicks, that was about 1973. My friends and I used to sneak into the field behind the drive-in to watch. Also one of the main roads in and out of town had a nice view of the screen and it was always a thrill to catch a a little glimpse of nudity as you went by, but with Mom or Dad driving a bit awkward too.

The first I RECALL was at Port Pirie and it was a Biker movie, cheap & tacky, early seventies. Maybe it was 'Hells Angels' ?
I remember one of the lead actors in a scene where he swaps his girlfriend for a pack of Marlboros. Charming stuff.
Better memories was as a little kid being rugged up at the drive in in the back of my folk's new '65 Falcon wagon, playing with my brother or staring at the deep blue night sky. Innocent days I can happily say..

our dad took us....... then a week later to a theatre in totowa and the lines were around the building at least 3 times........ there was someone in a stormtrooper outfit and someone in a boba fett outfit

I don't know which was my first. Saw Vanishing Point, W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings, Smokey and the Bandit, all those old H.B.Halicki movies...
Saw Song of the South as a kid too. After 10pm or so, the other screen would show pornos!

I guess we were either in the '67 Barracuda, or the '72 Satellite Sebring back then.

My Dad loaded us up in the then almost brand new 57 Chevy stationwagon and we went to go see The Ten Commandments..We thought that was so cool we went back the next night to see The Shaggy Dog..

 

"The Bridge on the River Kwai" I don't know what year it was, we went in the back of my Dad's '55 Ford Country Sedan wagon. It's the only movie that I remember my Dad seeing, he was a WWII vet who served in both theatres of the war and I guess the movie was something he though was worth seeing. I know I didn't make it through the whole movie before I fell asleep, but I had that theme music permanetly inplanted in brain. Now I'll be whistling that all day!!!

 

think it might have been "Bye, Bye Birdie" with the fam, on vacation, 10 years old, 1963? at the one on Rt. 37 in Toms River, N.J. Bobby Rydell and Ann Margeret (Oh My!) made an impression that lasts 'til today! "didja hear about Hugo and Kim!"

The first I remember was Rebel Without a Cause. Yes the original release. They had a kids movie first. I don't remember that one but it was a space movie. I guess the idea was the kids would be asleep by the time the movie for grown-ups started.

I was 7 when we went to the Spring Mill Drive-In in Mansfield,
Ohio, in the '49 Chevy to see "The Blob," Steve McQueen's
break-through movie in 1958. When we got home, I couldn't
sleep without the lights on!

The first I can really remember was American Graffitti

 

"River of No Return" with Marilyn Monroe, in 1954 or 1955.
Raft scenes were scarey for a 5 year old.
PJs and blanket in the back of my dad's '46 Ford 2dr.
Theatre was Whitestone Drive-in in the Bronx, NY. It is a multiplex now.
I slept thru the second half of the movie.
I can't remember what the second feature was.

 

"SQUIRM"... Coeur d'Alene Idaho... A movie about "Killer Earth Worms"... ha! Oh a classic for sure. Also watched "The Exorist" when it first came out and I swear.. during one of the scariest parts of the movie a big wind picked up and blew the entire screen down (that had been standing for years)! You've never seen so many people tear out of a drive-in that fast!

 

"HELP" by those four British guys... it bored the heck out of me and I think I played on the swings with the other bored pre-teens during the whole movie. It was in B&W! WTF! (though I had no idea what the "F" stood for....)
