  1. ---------------- 23rd ANNUAL GUNNISON CAR SHOW-------GUNNISON COLORADO----------

    ************************** AN EARLY ALERT *****************************

I would usually wait a bit to announce this, but it seems right to do it now ! The local college is holding their welcome back weekend the same as the car show, so lodging will go fast. If you have any thoughts of attending, book a room NOW. You can change plans later.

Here's a link to last years thread so you can see what goes on:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370020

The 23rd Annual Gunnison Car Show in Gunnison Colorado. This years show is August 20- 21-22, including a Cruise-In, Open Show and Breakfast Cruise.

FRIDAY AUG 20, 5-9 PM: Cruise-In on N. Main St. First Four (4) blocks closed for participant parking, Live Band - THE REVTONES !, Street Dance, registration booth, food vendors and more.

SATURDAY AUG 21, 8 AM -3 PM: Open Show in Jorgensen Park, awards ceremony at 3:00PM.

SUNDAY AUG 22 : Breakfast Cruise to Crested Butte, an ol' mining town 26 miles north of Gunnison. Part of Elk Ave.(their Main St.) will be closed off for participants to park.

Details and entry forms can be found at: www.gunnisoncarclub.com

CRUISE-IN: This year the show has some great features, the Friday night Cruise-In will feature a band that was found right here on the HAMB. From the San Francisco Bay area, The REVTONES will be performing. Our club vice-presidient was in the Bay area over Christmas and saw the REVTONES, he says they absolutely put on fabulous show.

DJ: The show DJ is nailed down, Alex "AXLE" Idzardi said he would be happy to come and spin tunes again. He's coming, we just have to feed him lots of Chicken Fried Steak........

WORKSHOP: Many of you probably remember last years great Flathead workshop put on by Dave Crouse of Custom Auto right here in Colorado. What a great presentation Dave did. We are having another workshop this year, topic and speaker unknown at this time. Would love to get Dave to share some more of his knowledge

The Lee Iacocca award will again be presented by the Gunnison Car Club. This year it is going to Wil Cooksey who ran the Bowling Green Corvette plant for several years and is credited with "saving" the Corvette when it was most needed.

Also, am currently working on putting together some special displays such as last years Race Car Display that included a Bonneville car, a Road Race Hemi Car and a few great Drag cars to boot.

Don't hesitate to PM me with any questions. Will be adding information along the way as things are nailed down. Hotel info to follow.

    Johnnie.

  8. WE DID ! !

Last fall I convinced the club to move the show up one weekend in order to not conflict with the drags. We have always held the show the fourth Saturday of August, which is when the drags have usually been. This year we are the Third Saturday and guess what ???????????..............It's a conspiracy I tell ya.

Hell ya! Wouldn't miss it!!! Our first time last year and what a lasting impression. GREAT people and a diverse collection of cars. Entertainment by the Mezcal Brothers (2009) can only be beat by the REVTONES this year. Incomparable hospitality by Laura and Johnnie Walker. Can't say enough...:D

Made our reservations. Website for the Comfort Inn had a lot of rooms marked as the "only one left". If you're going, now is the time to get a room.

  23. Looks like we'll have to arrange a cross country trip. Hey your car is done and doesn't look to bad for a " Root Canal Special" I'm bringing the glove box back to finish, You know you could send me a CD with the inspirational tune on it. Cheers AJ

  25. Please make the trip to Gunnison, we'll set you up as our celebrity pinstriper !

I just can't wait to tell people: "ALAN JOHNSON WAS ON DRUGS WHEN HE PINSTRIPED MY '40 COUPE ! "

Seriously, thanks Al, the Coupe looks great. My PC died, am suffering with the wifes laptop at the moment. Will burn you a CD when I'm back in the action with my PC.

    Later, Johnnie.

Me too! I just booked a room at the Western, which is right across the street from the fairgrounds, and got two queen size beds this year, so if anyone needs a place, we can probably work something out! Lindsay and stayed there last year, and it was fine. Nothing huge or fancy, but definitely clean and comfortable. The owner is also a very cool fellow -- Russian or Eastern European I believe... See you cats there! It's ALWAYS a great time!!!
