Metalflake Pictures needed here!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kellys Hot Rod Parts, Dec 1, 2009.

  1. Hey Abone30 when we did my Cleveland 302 engine the old hand builder swayed me away from thick paint, saying it holds too much heat in.
Maybe just one little reason why that engine never runs hot & still runs good today.

Here's mine. Done with craft store glitter 'cause I couldn't wait for real flake. Had to try a few brands to find one that held it's colour and didn't melt!!

Also learned a little about overcoating times with 2K clear - this is the second attempt after the first one wrinkled on me:eek:
Clear isn't cut yet, and I'll probably do it all over sometime - got a couple of tiger stripes that are pretty visible at certain angles. Looked fine under flourescent lights when I was painting though...

I like it. Nice job! Glad to hear somebody other than me has tried craft store glitter. I put some glitter on the last coat of rattle can paint that I put on the roof of my Acadian last year. A green/white flake, it is not all that noticeable from far away, but I think it turned out ok for a first time budget attempt. I may try and re-do it this year with a bigger silver fleck.
Anybody else try it with craft store glitter?

1942 Ford "Ute" custom. It's been around for years. Because of where it was parked the 'flake isn't glimmeriming in my snap:

That about what color I want. Can you tell me what base color, what flake, maybe how much did you use in the clear, how many coats? Lots of questions and thanks. The paint looks real nice :D
