BETTER ENTERTAINMENT THAN THE SUPER BOWL ...

If you haven't seen the drag racing movie Funny Car Summer, here's your chance courtesy of YouTube. While you'll find this as an entertaining video on your computer, it must be seen on big screen to be appreciated. Copies of the video are available on Amazon.com. ( Tks ..CompetitionPlus )

  2. Thanks for posting Al. I have an original VHS that Diane Dunn gave me years ago. I wonder if there's a way to transfer it to a CD?

  5. Rich, it isn't too difficult to transfer. You need a video capture device in your computer. If you want, I'll help you with it. I have a version that was broadcast on tv.

Got it on DVD. The first movie I remember begging Dad to take me to, when I was 8. To bad Monty Python isn't it.

Thanks for posting. The funny cars from the 60's to late 70's were great. They still looked like real cars. I lost interest in drag racing at about the early 80's.

NASCAR - the professional wrestling of the automotive world.:)

NASCAR, NHRA, and others - I think something was lost when the cost to compete got high enough that there were no more private entries. Now every single car is a rolling sponsor billboard. The $$$ and high tech have maximized the cars to each rule set and there isn't much room to do something different. Once the cars are identical other than the paint and stickers why bother? I'd much rather wander the pits at the bracket races or see a local circle track run.

Great movie.... I remember going to see it with my dad and one of his buddies when it first came out. I was 10 and I think it might be what screwed me up for life.

    Thanks for posting...

Wounder what happened to make Mike and Jim no longer talk to each other? Must have been a big fight...! Funny when the last words in the movie are Mike saying how Jim is the best Dad ever...

Anybody got scoop on their falling out?

Thanks again "Big Al" for the videos. I"ll have to dig out the original "Funny Car Summer" movie poster I bought about 25 years ago & re-live a great era.

Truely a great movie! I saw it at Tower Plaze theatre on Thomas rd in Phx. Rode my bike miles and miles to see it at age 13. I was already a drag racing junkie by that time but, have so many good memories of it. Beeline was not featured in the movie but when I went there, it felt the same way.
I've seen movie critics review it and knock it for its bad lighting, etc, etc.
Fooey! That WAS drag racing back then. When nitro cars ran at night, you never saw then down the track! All you saw was the pair of header flames! Cool stuff.

That movie did get me into trouble though. Mike Dunn does a fire burn out with his bicycle and I HAD to try it. Did it a lot with my friends. Got busted by the cops one morning after our paper routs for doing fire burnouts on out bikes. I still do them now and then.

Great movie that is accurate from the era and well worth having in your library. There is a funny part where Jim Is shaving, then they show his wife cleaning up, then Jim is still shaving, then his wife is making sandwiches, then Jim is still shaving, and she is doing more work. Funny.

Not sure if the dvd version is edited or not.

    A Must see.

Loved watching this as a kid, and just ordered a copy from Amazon.

Amazing how much Mike looks like Jim now that he is older. Too bad they don't play well now. Mikes experiences add a lot to the the broadcasts now.
