I'm not an avid baseball fan, but I like the sport ok... More than anything, I like the history of the sport and the visuals. Even more that that... and kind of sheepishly, I love the clothes of Baseball from the 1940's and 1950's.

Anyway, what does this have to do with TJJ/HAMB?

I know a guy that hand makes real wool hats from the exact patterns and materials used in the 1940's and 1950's for MLB hats. His work is phenomenal and I'm in love with his stuff... I can't help it. I've decided I'm going to have him do some limited edition TJJ/HAMB hats.

The hats will be all American made using the same materials used in the early days of baseball - real wool, silk liners, etc... They are gorgeous. The only change will be that we will be using a slightly more modern pattern to cut the hats so that I don't end up walking around like I'm in a costume.

They will be pretty damned expensive... around $35 I'm guessing. I'm only doing a few as the only reason I'm really doing them is that I want one for myself.

More than likely, it will take us a couple of months to make them. I guess this post is just a teaser... or an excuse to post the amazing images above.

    More later.

At $35 for a quality hat, I think that you're going to have more demand than you expect.

Funny, I've been looking all over for the old uniform baseball-style hats that mechanics and truck drivers wore with the longish soft bills...

It's weird this should come up now.

$35 and 'nice materials' make me pause though... I forget hats are on and they all end up looking like they've been through a war shortly after I get them. ;)

Could you conduct a poll to get an actual ballpark number of hats that you might have
    orders for?

Are these going to be fitted hats? I'd be interesed, too. That's when baseball was great. Check out the HBO Documentary Series called "When it was a Game," from the 90s. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

These definitely won't be hats you are gonna want to wear while laying on your back on some greasy garage floor. I mean, I bet they will last alot longer than a regular hat, but I think they will get dirty just as quickly.

They will be real fitted hats available in:

    7 1/4
    7 3/8
    7 1/2
    7 5/8
    7 3/4

I think I'm gonna do 50 TJJ hats and 50 H.A.M.B. hats. As few as he will let me anyhow... I'm not looking to market and sell these things, so I don't care about supply and demand.

My evil plan is to make enough so that if I sell them all, my two hats will be free. Capitalism... hahaha.

TJJ hat = hand embroidery similar to the Yankee hats of the 1950's.
H.A.M.B. hat = two tone felt and embroidery similar to the Red Sox hats of the 1940's.

I've seen caps going for $25, just because of the licensed logo on them. If you can get a nice item like this, I'd go $35, no problem.

Excellent idea. My favorite hat ever was an old style "Orioles" hat. Put me in line.

I'm not out to gouge and make money. I just want a free hat! :)

This will give you an idea of what I mean when I say "silky" liner:

I love this sort of shit for some reason. You can do all sorts of weight for the wool, but I want the thick stuff like they used to use. This might make them suck in the summer... I dunno... I just want one! My sample is so bad ass...

I'd be interested in one. Could you PM those of us who voiced interested here before they go on sale so we have a chance to get one. Seems I'm always late at getting in on limited edition stuff. You only have to miss the post that they are up for sale by only a short time and everything is sold out. Oh and I would want HAMB one.

and I don't think $35 is too much for a nice hat...

I don't think that was clear from my post.

In fact I want one... I just gotta figure if I can remember to take it off... :)
