Going to look at a 1957 Dodge 1 ton next week . Need to know what engines were available for that year. I all I know is that it is a V8 / 4speed . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Probably a 354 Dodge(Chrysler) truck hemi, or a hemi based poly. Go to the Hemi tech index & make some notes on use codes. There have been some wierd ones reported on Canadian trucks though.
That flathead Six was also used in Power Wagon W300-series trucks until 1972. Parts are easily available. The 315 Poly is a good engine, too. You might luck out and get a 354 Hemi, you never know. As said, the Canadian trucks especially, can be pretty interesting, in terms of what they came with stock.
I HAVE A 57 DODGE 2.5 TON AND ITS GOT THE ORIG. 315 POLY .pwr steering and hydro-vac brake was option for that year . flat window glass is cheap to have made from local glass shop. front windshields are still available.so dont sweat broken glass but it helps you to bargin on the price. The orig. mirrors are hard to get. Hope this helps. BRAD
Well as it turns out it was a Poly, oh well better luck next time. Truck overall was a little rough for the money, so it was left behind.
55 Dude, that's a really interesting '57 Dodge. Dodge didn't come out with a W300 (1 ton) until 1958. I was thinking W500 but the fenders don't work for that analogy. I am assuming that's a 4x4. Steve
How much $$$? As was stated it can be converted to a Hemi... and the Poly can be a good performance engine.... it's just a tick behind a Dodge Hemi...
