Didn't see anyone starting this, so I hope it's OK that I did.

Here is the prototype for the helmets that will be featured in the art show at the Torque Fest

Not sure if people know about the Vintage Torque Fest but it is a show (car show with bands art show vendors etc) that will be coming up May 1 by Dubuque Iowa.

This show will have an art show. We have contacted many artist to contribute their efforts to this "canvas".

Each artist will be given a blank helmet and we look forward to seeing what they come up with. This idea is not new - many will remember the Rat Fink interpretations at the Petersen Auto Museum when the Big Daddy Roth exhibit was there a few years ago.

I am hoping that any artist that have not sent me their address to please do so. We will be picking up the remaining helmets from Jimmy Flintstone Studios this weekend. These will be available for sale from Jimmy and I at a later date. Right now, we are trying to get all these out to the contributing artist first so that they can start on these and get them back to us by April 15.

The artist can either get the helmets back - or we will auction them off. The entire Torque Fest is a benefit for www.helpinghannahsheart.org.
Ryan has agreed to auction off the helmets here on the HAMB after the art show display. We will be sure to prominently tell everyone at the show - with some type of signage - that the artist that wish to contribute will have the helmets auctioned off on The HAMB.

The metal flaked helmet will be a special production that will have to be special order. The one you see was made with a translucent resin with Lil Daddy Roth flake added.

These are NOT metal helmets and are not intended to be used as such. These are considered models and are fragile. Once the art is added these will be unique pieces of art that we think will be one of the highlights of the show.

Thanks for all the artist efforts and we look forward to showing everyone the results after the premiere at the show.

Something fun for the kids. I am actually going out first thing tomorrow to talk to some children at a local school about Hot Rods I good friend of mine had told me about the young boys and girls in her classroom had been asking about cars and how they work and things like that. So she asked me if I would be willling to come over and talk to the children about cars. So I thought sure why not and I will even bring the Hot Rod out for them to see. So being I decided to bring the car out I thought it would be nice to bring them something to remember it so I sketched up this and printed off 40 copies for them . I hope they enjoy it.

    GaryC.

    "The Artifact"
They said that he stopped driving it in about 2077. It was called a hot rod.

It does look like it might be uncomfortable in there.
As the family understands, he actually built this by himself.
They say that there were quite a few of these sort of surface vehicles
around in those days. In 2068 the new-energy was discovered
and the fuel that it ran on was banned. Uncle Harry has old video
images of him distilling his own fuels so he could drive it occasionally.
It was once in a historical broadcast about the end of the mechanical age.

About the time you were born, the museum asked if they could display it.
Grandfather didn't want to do it at first. Nearly all of the roads were gone,
but he said yes. Mostly older people come to see it now. It's a good place to
keep it. He must have loved it. Imagine loving a machine enough to hide it
from the Enviropolice all that time. There is something mesmerizing about it
    though; don't you think?

So son, this is your great grandfather's hot rod. It will be yours someday.
    Kind of neat, huh?

Well; its getting late. Let's hop in the transport tube and head home.
    Do you have any questions?

Daddy; can we make a road?

Hi GaryC, Superb illustration but I don't know if I should laugh or cry after reading your eerily prophetic prose. I think the moral of the story is to enjoy our evaporating freedoms while we can. For the times they are a changin'.

    Meanwhile, I offer up: "Bloodlines"

I watched the movie Hell Ride and decided I wanted to work on a bike photo from the movie. I think I posted this last week and thought you might want to see it Tony.

Here's a sample of the type of pinstriping I like to do. This is on a sheet of metal 12 x 36 in.

  18. I always look forward to seeing your latest work Gary , I just wish I could build em as quick as you draw them. This one I especially like because of the (extra dimension) story you've put with it. Both would look great , hanging from any shop wall where we build them .

    Shrapnel

  19. Haven't contributed here for a while , so here's my latest (its number 7 in my self learning curve) one, not exactly hamb , but petrolhead art of sorts. It was a wedding present. 64.5 mustang she drives, 99 Thunderbird Triple 900 he rides. Sorry for the poor pics, but this embossed alloy is quite hard to get as a clear pic through the camera.

Shaping up to be a great start of the show!
John- Can't wait to get my greasy fingers on that helmet. Big plans (maybe too ambitious)

I don't have too much for this week. I spent half my week shooting 2011 models for Buick. But I got a call on Monday from a buddy of mine who spotted a bottle of Jones Soda at a ghetto Party store Downtown Detroit.

This shot is of a '49 Cadillac Sedanette (one of my favorite cars) at the first ever Hamtramck Hustle in '07. Later that year I threw some photos at Jones Soda and never heard back. This week I got a call from my friend who said he just bought one at a ghetto party store/gas station. Apparently they were released in 2008! I was wondering what the shelf life is on fufu berry two years later?! Wish Jones Soda would have shot me an email about it. Talk about delayed reactions!

I stopped by the A.S.S. the week before last and snapped a few pictures. Thought I'd post one up here on the F.A.S.
