Hot Rods Modified Murray - Race to the road! Progress in Review!

HAHA! I don't know!?? We're going to find out though. I've got a bunch of banger stuff lined up in the garage to build a traditional styled lakes roadster. Long term stuff, but I want to BAD!

There's a LOT to be said for simplicity! Unfortunately with this build, there was none...

Thanks guys! The words are encouraging for sure! I stood there and looked at the car for a little while today and tried to get a grasp on what needs to worked on this weekend. Overwhelming amount to do, but I think I can find a bunch of annoying little parts to clean up for paint this weekend.

 

Okay... so I REALLY REALLY wasn't going to do this, but just to give you guys an idea of what I'm looking for in the paint category, I messed around with Photoshop a few months ago and this is what I came up with. It looks more satin than anything else because I'm not too skilled in the Photoshop department, but I think you can get the idea.

 

Scooter, Really love ytour car. Like the use of the Houdaile shocks. I am trying to use two sets of '41 front shocks for my "A" Coupe. How did you convert them to bushings ? I am still using the original links. Keep up the Great Work !

Wow! I just heard a tornado just touched down in Seal Beach which is about 7 miles from here!!! Crazy day here!!

The shocks are completely original. They are military issue and were still in the oak box sealed with tape and had a date code of 1951 on them. I made the bushings for them using an oilite insert and polyurethane bushing stock that I bought from McMaster Carr and cut to length and fit into the eyes.

 

Finally made it home- Scott, it looks GREAT!!!

I like the blue- are you thinking along the lines of Washington Blue?

 

Can't wait to see it done. I'm getting old, please hurry.

Scott,I have been following the build since you got the sedan.

This car has come along way and you are that much closer.

It looks like it been a hell of alot of work and you are still at it.

When its done you will step back and be proud bro.

Keep at it. Its almost done.

Scooter have you thought about painting the wheels the same color as the body and leaving the drums black? might look good with some contrast in the wheel/tire dept, unless you are planning on running caps and rings. if thats the case ignore me haha.

I thought I would start with black on black first. I saw someone run blue wheels on black centers for their wide-fives and I didn't like the contrast. Just didn't hit me right. Always liked that black on black look though.

Yeah... I know, I know. Wish I had more to report! Hopefully soon! Disappointed myself, man! I miss really jamming on this car! Been really motivated lately also. Now that the holidays are over I can get refocused...

 

I LOVE that car! Thanks for the update, have you given any thought to the hood? I keep seeing it with wide Bugatti style lovered side panels. If I ever get a new camera I'll sen along some ideas I have.

I'm really liking this blue- pale cream rims (like you see) with black centers would like VERY nice with it!

 

Awesome thread man, you got to feel good about this for many reasons. Sometimes it helps to look back thru all the steps that you have completed to get to this point. It is hard to see at times, it just seems like it is constant work with no end in sight. Every bracket/gusset/mount & piece of metal takes a ton of work & time.

Looking at it now, the worst is truly over. Most MAJOR fab work is done. And you have pulled off a unique project that few people could even vision, yet alone do it & make work so well.

Keep it up man, you are in the home stretch. And pat yourself on the back a little, you deserve it!

I'm trying to figure out how much time after you started your Fordor project that I started mine. Must have been just a few months after you started. You KNOW I've been watching every second of that build! Huge inspiration, but you know that already. Just hope to see that thing in person.

Bob! The man! I would still be fumbling about with making panels had you not sent me those hood tops! Best thing ever! You rule! And YES! Given a lot of thought to a future "road trip" hood. Details are in the works and I've even done some photoshopping to see how it would look. I think it's going to be one of those things that I just try and see how it looks. Won't be for awhile, but I'm 99% sure it will be aluminum as well.

I originally was turned onto these shocks by another HAMBer, Steve (Villageidiot). He somehow knew of a guy in the middle of "nowhere tennessee" that had a pallet of them and I got in on them for a very good deal. The deal was done the old school way and I don't think the guy even had email. I called him up and not only did he send the shocks with a nice letter and some history photos of his families racing career, but he sent them BEFORE THE CHECK EVEN GOT to him! He no longer has anymore of them, but they turned up on Ebay not long after that. Their use was for heavy military trailers. When I worked on a military contract in Vegas, it turned out I was actually WORKING on one of the trailers (a radar trailer) that had these EXACT shocks on them! Crazy stuff! I tried to replicate the connecting links the best I could.
