hey, giganator, the way the air force and faa has you do flush is to countersink the hole or dimple it. and after you sety it if it isn't flush you shave it with a micro-shaver. as for the dry ice method that scorch67 said, never heard that one befor but we did heat treat rivets then stored them in a freeser to keep them soft to use then as they thawed they became the hardness of the heattreatment. as for doing it your self- stard or with o-type or soft alum. then work up to an. type soft you can use two hammers on and there is a way to fig. out how big the rivet and the hammered end should be. but i have forgotten that.
I thought that this video about riveting was worth watching if your into riveting. It was made by Disney during the war. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IagmAgHvcWQ
I used to shoot rivets in the Air Force so I can appriciate all the hard work that goes in to making every rivet perfect. No smiley faces on the dimpeled rivets. I also seen backseat betty at a Joilet show and even up close I was very inpressed.
I am glad some one asked to see some rivit showcasing. I was linking of doing a crazy interior in my 32 now I dont have to think about it any more!!
I've been wanting to learn what rivets/tools to use on my project. Figured I'd run across someone around Wichita that could help but haven't yet. I think it's anawesome look when done right and Back Seat Betty, HOLE LEEEE SHIT! Thats the coolest car I've seen yet!! Those guys are my heros.
I really wish I hadnt seen that pic. Dear Lord, I am not going to redo my bed, I am not. I might make some changes though. Oh crap.
Been to Frank's personally and seen his work first hand! INCREDIBLE! He had a bomber seat made of COPPER when I was there!!!! You can see the copper seat this picture... More riveting!!! Keep it coming!
I dig rivets......when used in moderation. They should do what they do, hold things together and not added just for "decoration"...
He has a couple of originals not shown in these pictures. Not sure if I have pictures of them or not...
I see a lot of new seats, and would love to see some shots of originals just to compare them. I notice there are a lot more rivets in the new ones made today than were used in the originals.
I know too lame, but i had to say that. I agree that rivets look good but need to be done in moderation. ive seen stress plates in the center section of fighter planes meant for 6 G's and they dont have rivets as close together as some of these examples
Is it, a copper seat, or an "Alodined" aluminum seat????......Kind of looks like the latter, to me, but I could be mistaken............
