Yeah! Wohoooo! I just got my room booked at "The Nugget" for Bonneville Speed Week 2010! I'm so exited! Man they go fast though, just after I booked mine, GearheadDK booked his and alot of the rooms were already gone! My 50th Birthday vacation next year is going to be a blast! NJ to Bonneville, CA and back in a 1950 Chevy Panel. Thanks to Danimal. "Bonneville and Beyond Big Birthday Bonanza" - Here we come! Happy New Year To all! Klaus
you get around. i believe i met you at the indy road rockets show around 5 or 6 years ago. happy birthday, it will be the big 50 for me too.
Hey how were you able to book your room at the Nugget? I called a few days ago and they said I couldnt make a reservation until the 1st of the year!?
Hey guys I don't mean to hijack, but I was kicking around the ides of going to speedweek this year. It will be my first time. I was hoping to get a little info: Where does everyone stay? Are there some campgrounds nearby? Can you camp out on the salt flats? If you can is it even a good idea? Do you typically stay for the whole week, or is most of the action at the beginning/end of the week? Is the event spectator friendly, or do you need to be racing something? The thing is I don't get much vacation time, and I'll be driving from Kansas City, so I might not be able to be there the whole week. My wife is almost as nuts about cars as I am, so I'm sure she'll have a great time.
Wendover, UT & NV every place will be full at the beginning. Yes, suggest http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,3570.0.html Depends on the weather, etc. Depends on time, motivation & $$ VERY SPECTATOR FRIENDLY !!!! ... Take loads of water, sun screen (put sun screen everywhere, including EVERYWHERE the sun doesn't shine). Pits are LARGE. Either bicycle on be prepared to walk alot. Always carry WATER. Shade & water are your friends! Take Binoculars. The distances are great! Suggest going to: http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php and search under Bonneville General Chat
I just went on line and booked rooms at The Nugget for the 15th thru the 19th. Got the confirmation number. All set. Second time, really looking forward to it. Taking Jim from Hotrod Stuff and possibly Gary/Hot Rod Roadster along.
Thanks for the info guys.... I got a little excited, promise I'll learn to use the search someday! Sounds like if I'm going to book a hotel room I need to do it yesterday. I'd love to camp at the bend. I know the wife is excited to go, but I'm not sure she camping out w/ fire ants, mosquitos, salt, and drunken silliness for 5 days excited....we'll see. I'm PUMPED! hope to put a few faces with the names, and share a beer or two...or three. Bryan
Ill tag along too, got my room and looking forward to the trip. LOVE to travel with my buddies Klaus and Cindy. We are open for beer drinking ))
We got rooms last week at the Nugget for the week. There will be about 30 to 40 people in our group and 4 or 5 cars running ( from the Seattle area)
This will be my first time going to Bonneville. I am going to camp at the bend, but my old man doesnt share my same idea. So he is going to stay at the Nugget. Here is what I learned; If you call the Nugget before the first of the year they will tell you, you cant make a reservation until the 1st of the year. But.... if you book a room online you can make a reservation on the 31st! So keep that in mind for next year. I believe all the rooms are already taken at the Nugget for this year. Mike
I got my room booked this evening at the Nugget! I really thought I'd be too late to do that. First time there for Speed Week for me. I'm looking forward to going! Might stay a night at the Bend, just depends on when we end up getting there.
I saw only 3 life forms on the Salt the whole time I was there last year. Alot of humans, a few canines and one insect. Camping; we stayed away from the ditch as recommended and didn't see any mosquitos. And I never saw any fire ants either. The drunken silliness seemed to be concentrated right at the Bend and it was mostly Friday and Saturday evening. There is plenty of space to set up camp away from that "zone" and still walk to the port-o-johns. I hope you can go and experience it. It is truly amazing.
called the Nugget last night and they are booked. The major three casinos are not booking til Feb. 9 and online only.
Be sure to get a printout of the reservation with everyones names you talked to on it. Yould be amazed how many people get their only to be told theres no record of the reservation. Ive been one of them but had the peper work so they miraculously came up with one
That is the plan at this point. Meeting up with Mark "general gow" on I-80 and plan on camping at the Bend again. Not sure if I am taking the coupe or the airstream.
