My old Merc and Larry Purcells 41 Ford @ the first KKOA nationals in Wichita '81. Thay look kinda classy together. Mick
You might want to do a little more homework about your assumption of the first 49 merc to be cut in 49. Or just ask Rikster about it.
I'm not sure how I missed this thread before, but I'm glad I found it. I with you Ryan, this car is the cat's ass.
There are a lot of nice customs here. Not all of them I'd categorize as "classy," but cool none the less. Punched louvers, flame jobs, even panel paint (although I love it all) just doesn't seem "classy" to me. Maybe wicked or wild, but not classy. Personally, I seem to categorize pre-1950 cars, with the exception of maybe a Caddy, or other top marquee 50's car more easily fitting in the classy category. Swoopy flowing lines, nice paint and interior. Something a movie star would drive to an awards show (although I'm sure that never actually happened). Coach built cars seem to almost always fit the bill. Here is one that's in Japan that I consider classy, but almost over the top. I would never change the paint on this car, but I'd love to see it in a solid, dark color.
i agree a classy custom is painted,upholstered.etc..Edgey is coming soon!I think you will start seeing more of a resurgence of the wacky looking custom that resemble those that came out of mainly east coast states during the late '50's.Now those were edgy(tasteless). My 2cents
