Don't have any of mine left but what I liked best were the cox gas powered cars, dragsters, dune buggies all of them. Also liked the u-control gas airplanes I flew the crap out of those things, no telling how many circles I made! If you ever go to Branson Mo. make sure you go to the worlds largest toy museum, it doesn't cost much and it will be the best money you spend, it is awesome!! All the toys you see on this thread plus thousands of others, every kind of toy car and truck ever made!! Plan on spending a few hours because there is a lot to see, I will go back every time we go to Branson, as I am sure I will see something new that I missed before.:D:D

I got these too, and had gotten a Cox Baja Bug at some point as well. And when I was 14 got a new go-kart to further the 4-wheeled illness.

My not-so-favorite Cox memory, I think I was 10 or 11 and I got a Cox Stuka airplane for Christmas. It had a detailed cockpit and it dropped a bomb with a seperate pull string. My Dad, Grandfather and I took it out side where they fueled it up, started it and my Grandfather started flying it.

After less then a minute he tried to gain a little more altitude. You can guess what happened. It flew straight down, full speed into the ground, exploding into a million pieces. I never even found the bomb. They laughed, I bawled and 30 odd years later I'm still waiting for it's replacement. Humbug!

Wow, another long-lost memory--Sizzlers! I hated to wait the minute or two to re-charge them.

My buddy got one of these Cox Baja Bugs in about 1969 (whenever it came out) and it's still in his dad's garage! Soft tires that you inflated by blowing into a small hose on the tires, if I remember correctly.

Unitas didnt come into the game until late in the third quarter, if he would have started the Colts probably would have won and nobody would even remember Broadway Joe.

Mine were either grown out of, given away (1970s) or stolen.

So many great toys! My faves were:
    Vertibird
    Matchbox and Hot Wheels
Sizzlers (I still have the gas pump charger, speedometer and "air brake")!
Corgi Semi's. I've started to collect them again. I'd get 10 bucks for my birthday and would buy one with the money:

I built a pile of models, some of which survived my youth:

"TTP" motorcycles (I think TTP stood for Turbo Tower of Power!)
And of course Lego and Meccano!

  15. Hey,
Not old but my grandson got an erector set type sprint car kit for Chistmas. So seems like they still make them.

Still have two of my Cox dune buggies buried in the shop somewhere:confused: Beat on em pretty hard, not always snow around Christmas in the Northwest but you could always find some mud to run them through. Did anybody else put the high compression glow plug and twin port cylinder on their cars? Man those .049s would scream with those parts.
I need to dig those buggies out for display in the shop.
    Merry Christmas, John

  21. I never had a Johnny Speed but I had the Johnny Express Truck. My other fave was the Verti-Bird.

I've managed to re-collect 3 Johnny Express trucks in various states and a Vert bird and a few other toys I had as a kid.

  22. Thanks to this thread, I just bought a cox trike off egay. Also read on another site Autoworld is reissueing the cox vega funny car.

Yep! had one of those also. Remember the Cox fly by wire biplanes. They worked great till you got to close to a tree or a clothes line. Then it became a dive bomber.
What about those zip dragster that would shower sparks out after the rip cord was pulled. Oh those would be banned immediately in SOCAL.

Joking with the wife. I said I wanted a red ryder bb gun for Christmas. Well she did the dead. Believe it or not the damn thing is very accurate and comes with saftey glasses.

  26. I still have mine too. They still crack me up.

You guys inspire me! I just had to go up into the attic and click a pic of my Beverly Hillbillies truck form 1963! Too bad, I somehow lost Ellie May in the last 45 years! LOL
