Exactly my thought. Why would I buy something because it used to be "cool"?

Yep... when they start putting real wings back on cars I might be interested in a new one. Until then...

And those Howie Long Chevy commercials are gay to the power of 10. The fact that they jab at other auto manufacturers... and are still losing market just doesn't look good. Sounds like a shitty loser to me.

Marketing- They're trying to conjure up good feelings about their current product by reminding of the stuff they used to make. Creates a buzz, like this, and get folks talking, like this. Remember the "Like a Rock" campaign for Chevy trucks? Sold millions of trucks for GM and a few CDS for Bob Seger. You might think their product can't compete or wasn't what it once was, but who cares if they got cool marketing? We're all suckers for marketing... I could go on and on.... I think it's cool, trying to sell something without even putting the product directly in front of the consumer, it makes you look.... Who would honestly look at a billboard with an Aveo or a Cobalt on it?

GM hasn't had a good marketing campaign since Dinah Shore!

I hate Howie's commercials, too. Funny, he's not talking about the stellar mileage my V6 GMC Sierra gets (13.2 mpg). (Hey, I didn't pick it, and it was free to me.) A better car doesn't ONLY focus on gas mileage.

And everybody knows the grand daddy of bling was a '59 Caddy.

What I see is "We used to make good stuff, about 50 years ago".

  13. They should keep the pictures and change the slogans to:
"We used to have a reason for shitty mileage".

Sad. I've pondered the "new" GM and debated what's more American - a Toyota made in KY or a Chevy made in Mexico?... Howie's commercials just piss me off. Our government fell asleep at the wheel recently and cost us all a sh** pot full of money. My (and your) portion of the bailout is more than the cost of a new car. The way I see it, they owe me a new car for free :) I hate if for the hard-working guys and gals on the line. However, my opin: screw GM - they messed it up, they can eat it.

Not much style in anything anymore. STYLE might hurt someones feelings or infringe on someones beliefs or give a polar bear a cold. Political correctness and style do not mix. I say DEvolved is more accurate

they sure jacked up the new camaros.. they could've made them look more like the old rs/ss in my opinion anyways. i think they would sell more of them..

  25. The big problem I see with advertising like this is that it completely ignore first time car buyers who more than likely have no idea or care what any of these vehicles are. If GM wants to gain back market share they need to get new customers that are buying Japanese cars and have a lifetime of purchases to make not try and pull on the heart strings of people who are in their waining year of automotive purchases. Another sign that they are completely out of touch with what is going on.

reminds me of when they show slide shows of old pictures at a funeral... recalling memories of years past, before the deceased past away. very unfortunate, but great memories none the less...

This statement has some merit. Think about it---if you're of the age that you remember '59 Impalas, either you abandoned G.M. products years ago and aren't going to come back because of a nostolgic billboard, or you've remained loyal to G.M. and the ad campaign doesn't apply to you anyway.

I like them but have no desire to own a new GM. I have to say that my favorite is the Impala with "Remember when heads were spinning and rims stood still"

I had a friend of mine (an art student at the time) make me a poster, which my ex gf has...it was a picture of the tail fin on a '59 Cadillac, and the caption was:

"They don't write songs about Camrys."

More appropriate, from a 'GM' perspective..
