Technical Cadillac flathead horsepower tricks

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by 38FLATTIE, Feb 7, 2009.

  1. Lots lof block welding and custom machine work. You weld up the exhaust ports and then cut 8 new port in the top. Using the 8 stock placed but very modified intake runners. The Flat fire stream liner was set up the same and was supercharged. made in excess of 750 horse power if I remember corectly..

I believe it is the same engine was in a tank from Europe somewhere nord that ran at the World Finials and was fast. I'll look it up and get back. I believe it is the tank of Erik Hansson XF/BGLakster. Record and two club @ 214.371

Small unrelated update. A couple of us are running reverse flow coolant so we had to rethink the waterpump and plumbing. Here is a little adapter I made to go in place of the pump. It uses a stock gasket, and I put a quick connect on it for easy disassembly for flushing, and adds more options for plumbing choices.

    That's awesome Kevin!

I need one! That quick connect is far better than the route I was going.

Thanks Rich, I'll check it out! I'm having my blower re-worked to run dry, and use port injection. Think I'll like it!;)

Well, Kevin, It's a real good piece to have for a future build, and it gives me two spares!

It's also a good piece to have for trade material.

Sure is, and if I wasn't scraping change together for my current build, I think I would have beat you to the punch on that one.

Kevin, I don't have much too report!

The engine block is at engine5xpro for the machine work.

The dizzy is at gmcbubba's for a conversion to electronics.

The car goes to fink'd on the 23rd for shaved handles, one piece glass, a few other body mods and paint prep.

Soooo, while I'm waiting, i've been finishishing my engine stuff. Made some stepped down manifold holdowns, to work with the custom intake. I'm just finishing my alternator brackets.

I'll be home for Turkey Day, asnd I'll post pics of my spare block mocked up with all the goodies!

Here is the car the tranny came out of- pretty slick looking!

I'm also building an aluminum adapter plate, to place the throttle onto the blower, and trying to adapt a birdcatcher style air filter housing to it. Look for pics after Turkey Day.

These are pretty c:cool::cool:l- roller tappets from a 1931 Cadillac v-12. I had no idea that they had roller setups back then!

  19. I found the Isky cam specs. 3/4 #44 In. 20-50 .375 lift .010 clear. Ex. 57-13 .375 lift .012 clear. Full race #44 In. 23-53 .375 lift .010 clear. Ex. 60-20 .375 lift .012 clear. Track #1021 In. 20-60 .375 lift .012 clear. Ex. 60-20 .375 lift .014 clear. Isky said to use the stock chilled iron Cad. tappets and remove the hydraulic insert units and install our self-locking adjustable inserts into the stock tappets. This info is out of their 1956 catalog.

A small run of the hard to get cam idler gears is finally done, after 6 months of research, chasing the proper material, and finding someone willing to cut them!

    Kevin, flatcadddy.com is looking good!

I have a little setback, as I need to find a new block! The block was boiled and magnafluxed, and shows some small cracks.

How many cracks are there? 7? Not good. A few could be fixed.

    Rich,

There are 4 cracks between the cylinders. We could sleeve it,and that would fix the cylinders, and still might. I'm going to try and find a good block before I go that route. Not sure how the fix would go on the valve areas.
