heres one for the painters i have a nice purple flake and would like to paint the 100e with it but i cant get it realy pop it looks dull exceptunder flourescent lights its over a black base coat is this the wrong colour base please help the under educated
spray it over a purple base, if you put it over a black base and you dont get a heavy coat you will see the black through it. If you want it to pop more put a little sparkle flake in it.
its over a gloss black base its cleared and plenty of coats its slightly smaller than monster flake but it just dont hurt your eyes in the daytime
The ability to pop won't be affected by the base colour, bear in mind its probably overcast where you are with little sun, what type of lacquer did you use. Flake jobs don't look much without a bit of sun 8-(
i know i was diss.with they way mine came out{i sprayed it in one of those tents from tractor supply with no lights}but oh my god when you get it in direct sunlight look out!!!how much flake did you put in each quart?i put three FULL tablespoons in each.can you still see the black?
bit big innit not sure on the actuall ammounts but it looks alot ill have to speak to the painter and find out
I painted purple flake over black and it looked great. Make sure you have enough coverage and enough clear. Once you put on the heavy clearcoat it should pop if you have enough coverage.
I have a similar problem on my A. In the direct sun it has a haze sort of. You see too much of the base color I think. It depends on the angle you see it from. Under flourescent lights it pops like nobodys business.
This is my roadster in flake under strong flourescent light and flourescent doesn't really do much at all but put it in the sun and BING !!!
Purple is a dark color. You put it over black, which is even darker. Dark colors do not really "pop". I mean, what are you expecting here? I painted my last 2 cars purple, it's just a dark color. You might have better luck with a lavender (light purple) base.
