Model A roadster is a roller *updated 12/10/09*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Nov 29, 2009.

  1. I figured I would start another thread on this as the first one was pretty exhausted.

I got the front crossmember cut and the engine mounts in. I also got the frame squared and tacked in the center crossmember. I was going to make it a bolt in unit...but after thinking about it for a month decided to make it stationary. It needs finish welded of course, but the engine is sitting in, square and level. I'm going to work on getting the rear end in it so I can have a true roller :D

So, besides the V8 and trans, what else is changing on the car? Looks like different axle and wheels? Going for a later time period now?

Very nice...are you gonna run steelies on this version?

  5. Yes, running a 32 heavy axle and a 33/34 wishbone and a 37-40 rear end. It will also have hydrallic brakes but will still run the wire wheels. Wheels on it now are just some junky rollers. It will be a little later build, mid 40's instead of mid 30's.

Awesome Chris!!! That thing is going to look killer. Anyone ever run spokes out back and steelies up front like you seen in all the immediate post war books? Always have been a fan of it but afraid it would look R-Roddy. I am sure if it was done on a simple car like this it would make complete sense. They used to do that for the 18" spoked wheel out back for better gearing right?

Your brother's coupe is mighty rad also.

Looking good! I am working on a 30' roadster right now. Have any pictures of the roadster?

  10. Yeah, I think gearing would be the advantage there...If I had more money I'd like to have a set of solids and the wires. Then I could switch to another type and the whole attitude of the car would change.

  11. Your right, looks a little front end busy now!!!

  12. Heres what it looked like before I tore it down...

You do neat stuff! What you gonna do with the wishbone? It would be cool to keep it intact. Just wanted to say I dig on your coupe as well, I've always wanted one similar. Too many projects now but maybe someday. Keep up the good work!

Hey Chris, I dug through my stash and couldn't come up with a decent gauge cluster. Everything I have is brown and crusty. Did the oval show up yet?

Looooooking goooooood!!! Your almost duplicating what I did in 1960 when I was 16 years old. Only mine was a '29 coupe and the engine was out of the 1947 school bus that I rode to school in on my first day in school on Sept 1,1950. Keep the progress reports coming, I'm having a good time watching yours come to fruition.

I wouldn't be surprised if you stumbled on a set soon somewhere in that garage that you forgot about in all this collecting that you have done in the last 6 months.:D

    yup. love it so far..

  26. Went and got my rear end out of storage for this buggy. It's a nice, clean and non-leaky rear end. I wanted to use a nice one so I won't have to tear it apart. I also got to try out my new drum puller I got at a yard sale last weekend. Man, did it ever work dandy. Rear end looks excellent.
