I'm gonna guess the #8 is Bill Verwys from Freeport speedway at Pocono for the Parts Peddler Street Stock race in '82 or '83.

Calhoun, sorry I missed this the first time by, and was pointed to it by someone else. It was for the 1972 or 73 season, and the copy was written by PR expert extraordinaire Steve Stubbs, now of the Charlotte area. Probably printed in the Louisville area. I'd love to have the original or at least a copy of it if you could send it. E-mail me at [email protected].

Butch Miller leads Rusty Wallace, Tom Jones, and Mike Eddy in the ASA race at the Pontiac Silverdome in February of 1983.

Clyde Parker, one of the nicest guys in ARCA in the 60s, and I believe the first in ARCA to use a motorhome. Pulled the race car trailer with it.

Jack Shanklin of Indianapolis, a real hard charger in ARCA. Flipped two or three years in a row at Daytona, in about the same place on the track. The year after his last flip, I was sitting on the pit wall before the race and he came by in civvies. I asked if he had a ride, and he wanted to know if I knew somebody who needed a driver. I said, "Naw, but if you find a ride let me know. I want to go get my camera and go down inside of turn four."

^ I went to the charlotte auto fair throughout the 90's and watched them slowly circle the track with more and more stands... is it completely encircled now?

Fats, I don't have any of that car. I've been to Taylor County, and I liked the place. Red clay banked quarter-mile at the time. That's where I "lost" a car in an ARCA race. Looked down to turn one from the flagstand and there was a big hole in that corrugated fence. This was before radios. I counted the cars and there were none missing. Turned out the car wasn't hurt and he had come back out the same hole.

If you can scan those photos and send them to me as .jpg copies, I'll post some of them. Send them to indybigjohn#roadrunner.com.
