I pulled this motor out of a 55 mercury wagon, it was locked up but I took a chance anyway. After many dollars later, (I see why sbc are so popular) and what seemed like all summer it's finally together. Just put the valve covers on last night, got them from a fellow hamber (thanks Scott). I can't wait to get it running. Planning to put it in my 27 roadster. Anyway I thought it looked pretty cool and I had to show it off.
Looks great! You are gonna love the sound, nothing like it! Well maybe a Flathead. Here's one of mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwyTHxB25o8
It's a regrind from Oregon Cams, these guys do all my cams, M-34. It's a pretty hot cam for the street but it sounds great. .495" lift with 1.54:1 rockers 250* dur @.050". If you are interested there is a direct like to Oregon Cams on my website.
Another one for the Y blocks and their great sound ! Where are you in York ? I am in Abbottstown and would love to stop by to see what you are working on . I have spoken and emailed with Oregon cams also . Great people with a boat load of cam knowledge for about anything out there . He also runs reground cams in his cars and drag cars . Reground cams will hold up very well . Where did you find the 6 carb intake ? Is there anyone making the log intakes for a Y block ? mctim64 has one bad ass p/u ! Very fast . RetroJim
that is super hot......Not trying to hijack the thread but where the heck is the oil pressure fitting on the block? I have a 292 in my 63 and I'll be damned if I can find it.
Thought about trying to get someone to make something up but I guess i will stick with the Offey 3x2 i have for it now . I know there was a few intakes made for some nail heads and others at a swap meet a few years back . Forgot the name of the company that made the . The Y block has that special sound like the ford flat heads has but not the same . RetroJim
Thanks all, its a 292 bored .060 over. Mctim i hope mine sounds as good as yours. I got a Camcraft cam .435 lift and 258 duration. All you guys talking about how good these motors sound is really getting me motivated to get cracking on the roadster.
Thanks man, It's a work in progress. There is a drag star intake for a y block on ebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WEIA...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
It'll be on the left side of the engine (sitting in the drivers seat) in line with the filter. The older ones had it on a boss right behind the filter but some of the later blocks have the boss although not drilled. Look on the left side you will find it.
