check out jimmie vaughns caddy,,i believe its chopped like 1 1/2",,,any more than that would throw the proportions off too much i think,,
i've always had this fantasy about grafting a 59/60 caddy roof onto a 61,,,,,(not chopped though)

Don't do it. The roof is already pretty low from the factory.
A chop would make it look goofy.

I wouldn't chop it anymore than 1", which raises the question, why do it at all?

I don't know, prove us wrong.

  14. I started doing that on an old Jo-Han model of a '64. There's a reason I never finished it. Plus coming up with glass is going to be a real bitch. The back window is safety glass, you can't cut it.

It's a 62 but that car's about the same as a 61, 63 amd 64s are totally different animals, best of luck.

Don't do it. The roof line is boxy and looks flat and stupid when chopped. I owned a '63 and I'll tell you,the one thing that never crossed my mind on that car was chopping it.The lines are perfect in every way for the '63/'64 years

the only thing I could see work well is putting a 61 bubble top on it.

    other than that, no!

Its hard to compare the bubbletop cuz stock they were a bit too fishbowl looking but I definitily will not put that top on the 64 cuz it just doesnt match the body very well.
I'll pump out a photoshop'd pic tonight but I just wanna bring the proportions in a bit. 3" is too much for sure but the 1-2" could look great. I want to steer away from the boxy top thats on it by putting the bigger rear window 62 top on it and play with the window angle a bit.
I thinking about bringin it down 2" but lengthening it so the trunk/hood line doesnt look longer.

For sure Ian, I'll definitily let you know.. I gotta find this 64' 6 window deville donor roof first.... Oz is ridiculous, his buick riviera has the chopped profile I'm lookin for

Anybody got this roof I can take?

  24. The Jimmy Vaughn Caddy was chopped by Gary Howard, 1.5" I recall. The C-pillars are from a '61 or '62 4 door. It's a perfect chop and completely complements the whole car.

I've seen chopped mid-60s Cadillacs but they invariable end up looking like crap. More than 1" and you'll hurt its proportions. I'd leave it as-is and invest the time into filling seams & molding, custom grille insert etc.
