AD or F1?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Skeezix, Nov 9, 2009.

  1. Mrs digs the rod scene ...she was a nice girl til I came along
She likes the AD Chevy or F-1 Ford of the 48 vintage...either is cool by me but I also like odd ball crap .. If you were gonna make Mrs. a truck WWYD?

I like the looks of the 54-55 first series if I went with a A.D. truck. Has the 1 1/2 year only grill kinda different.

Whenever given the choice between a Ford and that brand-X stuff, take the Ford.

OK, the fact that my old man used to be a Ford dealer might have a little influence on my opinion......

AD. And troylee is a GENIUS! There is one for sale in Cali on the HAMB classifieds right now that should be a sho thing.

Second place would be the F1. If I were to do one, it'd be that one, I don't care which grille, I like them both. But I won't be doing one! Got 6 ADs.

  6. F-1, but don't go by me, I only have 3 of them.

I love A.D.'s, and I dig the F-1's. But if I was really going to build a sweet pickup from that era, it would have to be a Studebaker.

My girlie just voted with her wallet, and a '55 first series is on the way home soon! A long winded story to be sure, but a "good friend" did the best sales job (read setup!) I've seen in years! Last thing I needed was another project though.....

I would go for a Stude too but I like that weird odd ball stuff. The AD trucks seem to have more parts available than the 48-52 Fords and I would dare say the parts seem to be a little cheaper for the ADs too. I had an AD truck, a 51 GMC with the full pressure six in it. Was pretty reliable but pretty darn slow. I now have a 1950 F-6 laying around. The Ford definately has a smaller cab than the GMC. From a glance I would say the frame rails on the Ford are a little wider than an AD and a V-8 swap would be way easier in the Ford. Mine has the 254 big six in it.

  20. Gotta go with the AD, IMO the Chevy's just a better looking truck.....(Not that I'm biased.....)

My buddy had a 55 F1 a few years back though,we did a high speed cross country run 80/90mph average speed.....
An ugly truck (in a good way ;)) but great fun!

Obviously i'd go A/D. I DO really like the F1's too..But i'm more of a GM guy to begin with, and just prefer the look of the A/D more than the Fords..
At least until you hit 55....then i have a hard time :)
I can honestly say that i will have my truck for a very, very long time. I like it that much,

I love the 54 F100, but own a 49 AD Chevy. If I had 2 next to each other, same price, same condition, it'd be a tough choice.

Building a 51' F1 for my wife currently. I took the fact that I liked the F1's and asked my wife what she would like........ BINGO, I get to work on a truck that I would want :D. Win, Win. Think about which one you like, she will like either one. $.02
