    I have a do-59 supercharger and I need any info on it that I can get. It doesn't have a dipstick and I think that there is an oil line that is supposed to go into it as well.

    thanks in advance

  2. i have very limited experience with one.....and yes, it had an oil line. it came from the oil filter, then to the supercharger , and then returned to the oil pan

    it looks like it has a vacuum or fuel line as well. I guess it gets electricity as well but can't figure out why. Wow my momma told me there would be days like this.

  4. i don't think that there is any vacuum or electricity needed them. maybe someone who really knows about the will see this and respond

    I googled info on your supercharger and this, among other bits of info, came up;

    Note all DO superchargers were made to run from engine oil pressure and do not have an internal oil pump or a dipstick. If desired a pump and new input shaft along with a dip stick and dipstick holder can be installed. The center race is different but if it is still good it can be salvaged. All DO models were discontinued because water vapor would collect in the S/C and decrease reliability. John Erb

    I bought this from someone sight unseen and when it arrived I noticed it has transmission fluid in it, so I'm wondering if something was changed inside do make it similar to a vs-57? There is what looks like a wire coming out from under the mcculloch nameplate, any ideas? There is an threaded port on the top that looks like oil goes in and on the bottom is a plugged port that looks like oil would exit maybe to the oil pan, but then there is a small brass piece that I would swear looks like it would be vacuum unless maybe to vent?

    the wire is for the solenoid. it has two speeds, when you step on the throttle the solenoid engages and makes more pressure. it can be a vacuum switch or a switch attached to the gas pedal. the brass port is for the boost gauge. i know the vs 57 uses auto tranny fluid and the do 59 uses the engine oiling system. I just picked up a vs 57 and have done countless hours of research!

    Whatever you do, do not bring it to the Paxton/mcCullough specialist in California.

    He rebuilt my VS57, and then it died after less than 1500 miles he pretended to not remember me or having worked on my blower.

    Bring it to John Erb instead...

    There used to be a Vs57 site, but I'm not sure its still there.

    I am sorry to say that a DO McCulloch or DO SN is a real problem. The units were made for a couple of years and discontinued. They do have some value but really very little. The problem is that they do not have an oil pump and they rely on (dirty) engine oil for the traction drive and lubrication and cooling. Engine oil tends to carry water and acid into the S/C so maintenance is high. The unit can be converted to a self contained oil pump unit and even a SN type supercharger. All the VS have a built in governor that sure takes the fun out. That part of the the conversion is real cheap at $28 but the new oil pump input shaft front case and dip stick parts make it rather expensive to make a good unit for you. Most Mcculloch S/C that have new owners have been sitting for a long time and need race lapping and general check out, If this isn't done the S/C is almost sure to seriously fail in less than 1000 miles. Sometimes in less than one mile. You can call me at 775 883 6494 for more info. John

    Hey John, I know these are old posts...hoping you might be lingering around still. I have a DO, needs rebuilt and is missing a few parts, a ball, the outer ball race and the output shaft! Craig Conley says he can fix/rebuild to brand new for $1000.00 . I'm interested in the SN conversion; however, I like to keep the DO oiling (I have my reasons). What say you?
