Customs TELSTAR: more progress with teaser pics,,,

yeah james, i feel like im finally rounding third and heading for home,,at least from a design standpoint anyway,,the only other area i feel needs some more attention is back of the car,,,i have a few things i want to try out back there before i call the styling done.., , , still a shitload of welding and grinding ahead,,

So will lesser seen areas be "custom" as well... like the engine compartment and trunk?

Unbelievable...at some point you are going to have to consolidate all your pictures from start to finish into a photo thread...I still remember admiring the subtle chop on a straight old shoebox...

 

Sir, this thing is unreal. I've been following closely and never would have logged on to say anything negative, but, I'm glad you did away with the cut down doors. Much better now. The cove in the side is going to be fantastic. (Are you sure about the abbreviated doors though? Is that a definite or just playing around with the masking tape?)
Either way, this is extremely impressive. Hope to see it in person one day.

On the subject of the use of mirrors in the design of a mock up-

For most of the design studio work I've seen for the automotive industry in America, mirrors were not used. Instead, templets were taken from design drawings and used to work up the line, form & elevation from the datum line. Once the clay was completed, and templets made up, it was an easy job to get the two sides the same via comparrison to the drawings & the templets.
Through the use of a method known as " clownsuit " a styling clay could have as many as four different design ''treatments'', roughly a quarter the size of the clay per design treatment/idea, per design clay. Say if a design idea called for dual headlamps and a different wheelhouse opening for the lt. ft. fender, and a single headlamp assy. & door, and a different shaped wheelhouse opening for the rt.ft. & different grille shape, for a different design direction, all could be worked out via the ''clownsuit'' method. The same could be done with the quarter panels, and various rear facebar and taillamp ideas, as well as body/character lines on the vehicle.

Is the grill housing made from rear window trim off of a chevy 49-52 fast back?? Looks good!

Jim, As usual Telstar is making improvements with ever change (no matter how minor they may be). Car really looks great. I would love to have a mild Kustom '50 Coupe or one with a mild chop. Enough projects so probably not in my future.

I love this build.

You, my friend, have balls of hardened tool steel to take on a project of this magnitude.

The fact that you're pulling it off in grand style is a testament to your talent and tenacity.

I gotta say though, I do not envy whoever ends up metal finishing all those joints.

Four years to build it, ten years to planish all the welds.

Jim, i don't post much on the progress on your car even though i did earlier today..I've just been enjoying the progress..
But, i had to come back again.
The place the car is at right now, and seeing the photoshop Rikster did seriously struck a nerve with me.
I've thought the build was cool all along, but i am now beside myself..like, can't stop looking at that photoshop pic.
I wouldn't make one more change to it..it is PERFECT and extremely unique.
I can't wait to see this car in paint with all the little details dialed in like the interior and dash.
This build has peaked my own interest in going crazy on something like that...well, when i get done with the other hundred projects it feels like i have..
Well, thats all..
Keep up the good work and get that sucker together! It's a rolling work of art in progress.
