Someone mentioned Green Stamps, how about Blue Chip Stamps. The Sears Christmas Wishbook. Cox gas powered airplanes and cars, Daisy BB guns, cap guns and toy rifles, cool battery powered robots, Lionel trains, slot car sets! Model kits were $.89 and you didn't have to have your parents buy the glue!

    That's conjecture, time will tell.

Me? I would bet that forty years from now there will still be 1960s cars/trucks on the road and there won't be a 2009 in sight.:D

I'm 60. Grew up in a 'junkyard'. 300 cars were my 'backyard'. :D Flat-tow stock cars to the local 1/4 mile dirt track. Horizontal Pepsi machine you had to slide bottles to the left into a 'chamber' and lift out. (Somebody with a bottle opener and a straw could have saved themselves 10 cents:rolleyes:) New cars (50's and early 60's) came into the truck stop next to us COVERED WITH TARPS on their way to the dealerships so everyone would have to wait til Sept 1 to see what they looked like! Same deal (covered) on train freight cars carrying the new models. Junk yard dogs - we had Sarge and Wolf. Great memories.

How about streets striped with dark centers, from everyone's leaking engines. When was the last time you saw that?

Cigarette machines, stop signs with round reflectors, taking a nearby drive in the country, riding your bikes as kids to the corner store, the delicious smell of leaded gas........

I remember my parents getting those S&H Greenstamps books filled up at the time of gas purchase. They also actually pumped the gas for you

Old days ingenuity is gone. Putting salted peanuts in a bottle of Coke reminded me; My Uncle Dee had a gas station, we would do that treat every time we went to town. Some of the kids put the nuts in orange soda. Uncle Dee talked the local pop bottling comany to mix orange and coke and bottle it. It sold very well, same price, a nickle.

Okay, Im in the Army and JUST came back from Iraq... get the point but damn if that wasnt cheesy... let alone, none of my guys buy into that BS... God & Country is a sham... its about making the bills every month... Take care and hope youre right rather than I, as I prefer your view point...

and I miss riding in my Dads old Ford standing on the bench seat with some wild assed patterned seat cover, one arm around the old man, and the other waving to the oncoming cars...

miss my old barber shaving my four year old face with a straight razor to fit in with the old timers, and being able to choose which color after shave I wanted from fancy glass bottles...

Soda Fountains, Drug Store candy in glass jars..., Candy Cigarettes, Old Timers with Cigars and Pipes... (maybe why I smoke them now)

Fire Station sounding the siren at noon for lunch and five to call a close to the day...

Damn, missing a time I feel I barely caught the tail end of...

I have some good news for you. In the last year, the vast majority of models (I photography models for catalogs) I have worked with are sporting BIG bushes. They shave outside of their underwear, but that's about it. I imagine that they feel "alternative" with it like that, kinda like all of the dudes with their porn-star beards and C.H.I.P."s sunglasses. I have to admit, it's kinda sexy.

This is mighty good news for those of us that believe in the credo, "no muff, too tuff."

They have been for quite sometime. The government put them all on reservations in the 1800's.

Too young to have much input, but from my dad's stories I'd have to say being able to cruise around with a bunch of your buds on back dirt roads, finishing off a couple 24's while listening to the good ole' 8-Track (with a pack of matches wedged under the cassette to keep it in place). Taking your time, not speeding, not hurting anyone. And when the officer that pulled you over immediately noticed the beer from the half-empty bottles you hastily tossed into the glove compartment leaking out onto the floor, all he said was (rolling his eyes) "Boys, go directly home and stay there until you sober up." Preferable to losing your license these days for a year, thousands of dollars in fines, several responsible driving seminars and a breathalizer installed in your vehicle for the next couple of years. :(

Well I'm 24 and I recall fondly sitting on my 5-year old keister mesmerized by the Bugs Bunny and Tweety show. A bunch of crap on TV now, though surely my dad thought the same about most of the stuff on TV when I was a kid. Shit, how about a nation sitting around watching Armstrong and Aldrin land on the moon. Most people now couldn't be bothered to watch a shuttle launch on TV.

Double features at actual theaters... not the mega multiplex.

Vans were made for love'n... not for soccer practice

Tough kids from tough neighborhoods were tough.... not every joker from the suburbs who listens to rap music.

Girls smelled like aquanet and boys smelled like Brute deoderant.... now they all smell the same.

Kids popped wheelies and jumped ramps on bikes... now they can unlock secret moves in the latest video game.

Yes man I dream of a classic dealership with neon signs and a giant rocking chair like on American graffiti that would be awsome but these days you would have to to fence it with state of the art security just to keep anything but we all dream these things.

Here in CA they are the ones who have tribal owned gambling casinos, but I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.
