Questions, 1. I assume that 8.20x15 is the same as 820x15 right? 2. I see comparision charts that show the 820 X15 tire = p255 70 r 15 or 235 74 r 15, if this is true, I should be able to use a 8" wide rim with a 820 x 15 tire, right? Thanks again...
Back in "the day", late fifties/early sixties, a six inch rim was pretty much the standard for stockers, and running an 8.20 x 15 on a 6 x 15 rim was just right; the tread patch on an 8.20 is right at 6 +/- and it looks right. Putting them on eights makes the bead sit way wider than the tread, and they look odd. I ran 8.20 x 15 on stock Ford wheels in the rear, and 6.00 x 15 on the front on my '51, and even without lowering or raking, it looked decent; after lowering and raking, it was even better. Nowadays, it sort of depends on what look you're trying to get, I suppose.
O.K. There was a set of these on craigslist, but I guess I have to spend more for a wider size. Thanks.
Could you run a 8.20x15 on a 5 inch wheel? Or would that be too narrow of a rim? If anybody has done this, a pic would be great! Thanks...
I run an 8.20 recapped slick on an 8.5" wide Ansen wheel on my roadster. Never understood how the regular Bias ply and the slick could have the same size number but are very much a different animal. But as stated above if they are regular bias plys then 5-6" wide wheel would be best.
Thanks Druss! Looks to me like that tire would prolly work on a 5 inch wide wheel. Trying to work with what I have....
