I know this has been asked before as I did use the search function before I asked this but I didnt get the specific answer I was looking for. I am doing my Lincoln in a late 54 early 55 custom and I was wondering what would the pleat/roll size be for that time period. I read in a 1955 Custom Cars annual that shows you how to do upholstery and he did 2" pleats for the door panel. Now is that because it was the door panel and the seat pleats would be smaller or is it all the same width seats and door panels. Any help would be appreciated.
"Upholstery, pictures, inspiration, how to, history" would be a good social group to start with. On the Hamb in social groups
2" is what my Dad always sews. He's a 50's custom guy. I've helped him lay them out and he always likes 2" for that era.
I like 1 inch, but wider is ok,look at some and pick what you like. Then the big problem. Over the seat back or not, french stich or not contrasting pipeing or not and on and on Roger
heres mine form my 50 shoebox,2'' pleat width, done by an old school guy in mexico, high quality and well done
Thanks Hombres Ruin..I know we talked before about going to the same guy you had yours done by but I found a guy here locally that does some high quality stuff at a good price.. Yours is amazing though...
Just make sure you don't end up with half a pleat on the edge! I'd lay them out and step back or live with the marks for a couple days. Look at them thru the windshield, thru the door, etc. The right ones will talk to you....
2" is about the normal width for that era. As the 60's approached they narrowed a bit with 1" becoming common in the early 60's.
