Is it running smooth & not smokin'? I'd love to know the answer on this one, too. From what guys have said the last few months, plus eBay and talking with a couple of guys with free-turning engines (out of car), my WAG would be a grand for 2-barrel to $1,500 for 4-barrel.

I value the small Hemi's at $500 ( complete rebuildable core, might be stuck) and $1,000 running and not knocking. The price would probably be higher at a big swap or closer to large population areas. Up here on the northern frontier transport cost plays a factor.

Depends on if it is a 51-3 2bl, or a 54 or 55 4 bl engine. the 2bl long tails are worth less than the short tails. b4 the recession non running cores-51-3 probably 700-900, 54 1,000, '55 1,200. Running w/o any smoke would add at least 400, considering the cost to overhaul vs a decent runner of unknown condition beyond that it is running.

    (3) 331 hemis just sold on Ebay in the past 2 weeks, 2 of them still in the original cars- one was running ,the other 2 would run easily with a very minor work- they went for $500-$600 range

add shipping $250 per engine, means if you could find one for $750 locally would be the going price.

I'd personally not pay $1000-$1500 for a 331, that money would be better off spent towards a 392- the 331 is down on cubic inches and compression in factory form

if money is no object, then hey, stack 'em up along the garage wall at $1500 each then- but at that buy in price, one would lose money when selling time came around

the economy and market just isn't supporting those kind of prices now
