what kind of tire did they use on late 50s-60's style show rods. what kind of street tires available today?
here's a few......... Coker tire, M/T slicks, Hurst slicks,......... but you already knew that, didn't you?
Hurst can groove their slicks like that, and I think that Coker may have had a few of those dirt track tires in the wider sizes but I don't know if they are making them or not.
A narrow whitewall really defines a 60's 'show rod' to me, even though the wide whites were also fairly common. For a current day build or restoration, it helps with the defining the visual theme between 50's to the 60's. It seems like the typical rod on the street was more into the black walls. My older brothers ran the Firestone indy tires on Americans on the back, still one of the best looking tires ever in my opinion.
The tires on the back of my trike are goodyear bluestreak stock car specials 8.20 x 15. they are from 1967
That trike is beautiful and has mid 1960's all over it ! I love it ! How well does it handle on the road ? RetroJim
I had these custom made by Cody and Steve... 6" wide pie crust single groove down the center 28 3/4" tall you want them to go straight up from the side of a 15x6 mag. I had these made for my roadster... I can't wait to mount them. I was gonna wait until I posted a big update... then up front you want to run 5.60x15's...
If you look back in littlebooks you'll start to notice a lot of single groove pie crust slicks- that dragster that was found here in minnesota had a set... so did the beach boys coupe-
