Lots of 60's magazines like Modern Rod and Popular Hot Rodding are jam packed full of all this stuff. I may have to add some photos from them sometime soon.
Anyway, here is one of my own versions of what I think a mid-sixties street custom in California would look like, a '64 Buick Electra I've had for 20+ years now. Pretty much period correct with '65-6 wheels, Cal Custom stg wheel, mild dechroming/lowering.

    I am in love!!!!!!!:D

  9. I built this car to represent what I would have built in '68 if I had the scratch for a 440. I was 16, loved the radiused-wheelwell look, and the mis-matched wheels prevalent on "real" gassers in the magazines.

  11. What steering wheels were most popular in the 60's other than the metal flaked ones?

Walnut wood riveted to the rim and chrome chain but the metalflake was most popular.

  13. SPDJNY....I lived in Texas from 1964 until 1968.....All of us bought Cal Custom Steering Wheels in varying sizes in colors that matched our cars , OR in Plain White, in varying diameters. I really hope I'm right about the Branding, but it was WHITE for certain, because it was a color that worked in everyones car. It was before the Lowrider Trend that gave us stupidly small diameters that were cool, but unsafe to drive.....I bought a Wheel and a New Reverb unit for each of the (many) cars I bought during that era. Remember that many of these trends were "regional"....don't let the 25 year old experts tell you otherwise......You had to be there....:) Centurion9

What a beautiful Coupe, how about some more pictures of it and some information about the drivetrain?
