Ford 2 bbl . Good carb , easy to find and dependable or a Barry Grant but they cost more . If you are running a stock FE then any of the big block 2 bbl carbs will serve you very well . RetroJim
The best and I mean the best is the holley 500cfm with the 50cc accelerator pump. You will be amazed. What are you putting it in?
Very difficult to beat the stock Autolite/Motorcraft 2100 series 2-barrel. Everything fits without modification, they run exceptionally well, and they don't leak! It also has the advantage of being very available, and reasonably priced. Should be able to acquire at local swap meets, local auto parts stores, Ebay, etc. Just be sure you find a tagged example that was used on the 390. Variations of this carb were used on virtually every Ford V-8, as well as a number of A.M.C. products. Jon.
I'll second that, I have the factory 2100 on my '59 332 FE big block and the only work I've done to it was replace the accelerator pump diaphram. It's very easy to tweak, runs well in all temps, runs good when it's cold. Parts are cheap & easy to find, and there's a lot of good sources of tec info. There's a million variations on this carb as they were used up to the 80s, so make sure you get the right one.
I agree with the two above posters.Stock Ford/Autolite carb is the best all around 2 barrel out there.Never needs anything done to it after you set it up.
