The Zephyr name was still in use in 1942. 6,098 Zephyrs produced for 1942 model year. The only engine available for all Lincolns in 1942 (Zephyrs plus 336 Continentals and 113 Customs) was the V-12 with 2.94 bore X 3.75 stroke for 305 cubic inches

For pics of a nice '42 Zephyr with only 22,000 original miles

I could see that car getting this kind of treatment. Here's a Ford that Voodoo Larry did.[IMG]

if it wasn't so ugly, it wouldn't need to be customized :)

  11. your right it was a 305
    the rest were 292
and if i want to go look at an all origional 42 i could just go to my dads
but his is a cont cabriolet with 21,000 miles and was purchased new by Phil Wrigley... hell it still has the chicago cubs press pass sticker on the window

V8 conversion or not, it is still regarded by the CCCA as a "Full Classic." Quite a find, I'd say.

Imagine that classic car with "kustom street rod" touches like square quad headlights from an early 80's Pontiac! I've actually seen that done!

Closer than you ever dreamed!! I had a '42 Continental Coupe, who's first owner was Joan Crawford. Bette Davies drove a post war convertible in "What ever happened to baby Jane". It had a 500ci Caddy V8 fitted. There were only 200 Coupes built and 120 convertibles for the '42 model year. There are about 40 coupes known to have survived, about 20 are running. I took mine drag racing twice, so it maybe the only '42 Continental that ever went drag racing!
Not big bucks. I regret selling mine and not rodding it. They've got very long front fenders which could take two axles up front a bit like the "Thunderbirds" Rolls Royce. That would be a cool custom.

Stock looks are really fine with me. It would be kind of shame not to clean that one up and pretty much just give her a new lease on life.

    You could call her Baby-Bette-Joan....

So much Art Deco and a pretty cool engine as she sits, needs clean-up etc. but a hobby's a hobby...and yeah I am gettin' 'ta be an old fart....but imagine a dark midnight blue with a touch of pearl and a burgundy leather interior....I'm just sayin'...

Now that red car would be a site to see

  20. Little Wing has a 1942 Continental FS now in the classifieds and a few have mentioned -questioned what it would look like customized.

Here's mine (1948 version which had revisions in trim but the same basic body) that's finally getting a 390 FE Tripower 3spd toploader & a 9". Ford only built less than 300 Converts and less than 900 Coupes in any of the production years. 1942 1946,47,48. How many still exist is hard to say.

    Movin/on

Rikster photoshopped this and since, I've matched it even down to the front wheelcovers. On the road soon.

You could also customize the roof like Frank Lloyd Wright's 1940....

I found 3 1947 Lincolns in a barn in January a Continental Convertible, a Club Coupe, and a 4 Door sedan. So yes, they are still out there.

I saw one of those fully restored at the RM Auction in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday. Sold for $36300.
