Anyone have pictures of abandoned Drag Cars?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BobG, Jun 10, 2009.

  1. I should post a series of shots of my buddy's '55 Chevy Bel Air drag car. It's been a race car since the early 60s - '57 Pontiac rear, cut out wheel arches in the back, cage, engine and firewall set back, straight axle with a new front frame stub, had a fiberglass flip nose, big arched drag link from the set back steering box, etc. - and has been parked for years.

    from nowhere...

It WAS on Ebay a year or so ago...
Not sure where it went, but, I noted the same thing! I REALLY wish I'd had the cash at the time.
I THINK, it was not even too far from me...P.A., or MD, maybe?
    Can't remember...I just wanted it!

Here's a car I owned briefly. It was a coupester, channeled with a Y block and a truck three speed, recessed firewall, Dana rear with split bones/transverse leaf, no front brakes, a dropped front axle with split bones and a really nicely made bolt on suicide perch that someone added tow tabs to, necessitating the spacer, skinny whites all the way around with recapped cheater slicks in the back, Deitz? headlights, formica dash, a Covico? steering wheel and an unknown tank and radiator. The aircraft seats came from the same yard, but not in this car, though the grille shell may have been on it originally. The overall construction of the car wasn't all that impressive, but it was still neat to see considering that it most likely hadn't been touched since the 60's and could have been terrorizing the streets of Phoenix at one time.

This 34 Ford came out of Wyoming and was raced in the 50's or 60's so the story went. It was then stashed in a barn. Does anyone recognize this 5W? Please PM me if you have any info. Thanks

I know that it isn't a drag car but I thought you would enjoy it anyway. It was shoved into the bush up here in Canada because the roll bar became obsolete and it was easier to build a new car than update this one. IMG_2010.jpg

  15. Here are 3 I have-

    1. The Red Baron '66 GTO. a well known local drag car in the Phoenix area in the mid to late 70s. I remember it well as a kid. several years back I found the hulk ready to be crushed. I was able to buy the car and rescue it. It's a real, now documented 4speed GTO and as rough as it looks, it is rust free so it could be restored one day.
    2. '66 Tempest all glass body. I also have the glass doors and tilt front end. History unknown other than it was from the Seattle area.
    3. '68 Firebrid Funny all glass car body originally owned by Jess Tyree. Car still wears its '69 paint job.

all are sitting at Pontiac Heaven until I get the building put up for the planned museum.

Looks like it was an old asphalt car, any name on the roof to see who's it was? Tell me you're gonna score that one. Stuff like that around Edmonton should be brought back!

It was used at the old speedway but I never looked on the roof for a name. I don't have a use for it (I have way too many projects). Other than yard art, I don't see this one being saved.

This, my friend is a ford. It may have a 34 on it, but might be a '35-6. The primer does magic things to the image, but it ain't special.

This one was an old shorty wagon wheel stander, 427 bbc. Wasnt much left, oddly enough we met the guy who built it and offered it up to him, he declined. Its a refrigerator in china now. For comparison the roof on top of it is an original length nova wagon roof.
