Yes, this is totally off topic and not appropriate for the H.A.M.B. But doggone it, I think it's unique and worthy of mention so I'm gonna share it with any who might care ... at least for a couple minutes until the thread is closed! Yesterday my favorite aunt, Ouida LeBlanc (good sturdy Acadian stock, straight out of New Iberia, LA) celebrated her 101st birthday. Can I hear some "attagirl"s .....!!!!!!
WOWie! Congrats to Auntie! I visited with my 94 year old great aunt on Sunday who is very much still alive upstairs. Was a pleasure talking to someone that experienced.
cool. to make this post HAMB friendly give her a call and ask what was her first car she ever owned. my Grandma drove a Model T once around 1925 and went right into a ditch and never drove again.
Well, I'd have to lie. As far as I know she never drove an automobile in her life. But wouldn't we like to have some of the ones she's ridden in!

Just lost an inlaw grandmother 4 months from her 102nd birthday...boy the things she seen and been thru. and she was with it, right up until the last 8 months attagirl for yours

Good for her! My grandmother made it to 98+ before she passed away. Next week would have been her 99th. We all miss her terribly.
Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts. A year ago we had her 100th birthday party. One of the extended family owns Mary Mahoney's, an old landmark restaurant on the Mississippi coast ... you know, ancient oaks shading walled patios, a very New Orleans vibe. They shut the whole place down for the day to host her gathering. The extended family came from all over the US and a couple other countries ... probably 200 - 250 people total. Had her greetings cards from the President and the Pope, lotsa great food, open bar, etc. It was pretty freakin' awesome! The lady is sharp as a tack, will keep you laughing, and totally exhausts my cousin (her caretaker) tryin' to keep up with her. I've threatened to put some "mooneyes" decals on her walker!

Let me put it this way. You've seen tennis balls placed on the bottom legs of a walker? Well, we had to change hers to a different brand 'cause she wasn't gettin' enough traction off the line. I kid you not! (BTW, the yellow ones are the hot setup!)
Gota a friend in Florida, come to think of it he now lives in N.Carolina. Any way when he got married, Mom in law came with the bride, she was old and it would be just for a time, Ha. Shes 107-8 some thing, she still spry, does a lot of the house work. Hes been married for many years and Moms still there, all of his married life. They get along, like they was kin, LOL. Iceman

Manyolcars, If she's close enough, you oughta give her a visit. We all tend to take things and people for granted, but when they're gone, they're gone!
What a great post. My Great Aunt Alice lived to be 103 before she had 'had enough' and called it a day. We lived with her for a number of years when I was younger and she used to tell me stories of her youth. My favourites? The first time she ever saw a motor car, was riding her bicycle and grabbed hold of the rear of it to pull her home. Riding side saddle on her 'Gentlemen friends' motor cycles and being dropped off far enough from home so that her father didnt hear. Being an 'Air Hostess' on the flying boats on their route down to Cape Town, the trip took 10 days and was just one big party. And lots more. Strange, not thought about her in a while, amazing how something like this can bring the memories flooding back. Happy Birthday!!!! P.
Too cool..tell her happy birthday Sit down with her,and a tape recorder, and get some stories down. There's your historical connection. Still wish i woulda done that with my Uncle Gerry. Irish brogue you could cut with a knife, and 10 minutes to tell a two minute story. Get that tape recorder while ya can.
