OT/How many HAMBers play music?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chili Phil, Oct 26, 2004.

  1. I see there are a lot of musicians here. It seems like a quest to create runs in music and mechanics. It wouldn't surprise me if 70 or 80 % of HAMBers play at least at an amatuer level. I see a few road dog rockers here too.

So, what do you play? Do you use vintage instruments and amps? I bet we could get some HAMB-jams at the places where we get together.

Here's me: Fender Jazz bass- 5 string, Jasmine accoustic bass, old Takamine guitar, Fender bass master 12", Ampeg B-15, Kustom guitar amp. Kustom 6x10" cab. I usually play with singer-songwriters but I love to play honky tonk music best. Hook me up with a brushy drummer and a room full of dancers and add free beer and you've got me, right there!

Sorry for the off topic topic, but I'll bet there are as many players here as skaters.

Flexi is much better at it from what I hear but it only works when he has a picture of a certain red head he used to know...a sad sad story full of much drama.

I can already tell you some high caliber music types will be showeing up on this one...well most of them are high caliber and the rest are Krupanuts. [IMG]

I used to play in a few different bands, from jazz to blues to funk...

Mainly play blues guitar nowadays, but I used to play saxophone for the jazz and funk stuff.

    '89 Fender American Strat
    Epiphone Sheraton
    Carvin Tweed All-tube "Vintage"-style amp
    Epiphone Jumbo Acoustic
    Keilwerth Alto Saxophone

I never had the dream of being a full-time rock star, just liked playing on the weekends...paid my way for the first year of college, though!

Was a music major, now am trying to go back and complete my degree. Music majors get to do lots of stuff, LOL.

Primary instrument for my major is voice, and I am required to do both solo and chorale work.

I play hand percussion at church.

And, I've been working on Chopin on piano. I do pretty darn good on the ones I've tackled so far. Hope to be able to do the harder stuff eventually.

Guitar player, '61 SG/TV and a Fender amp, mostly played what we used to call hard rock, did the punk thing in the early 80's, worked in the inustry for a while. So far I'm 2 for 2, music and skating....

I played bass and guitar in a skaterock band called "the Faction" from 1982-1985. produced three albums and three 7-inches (DYI under IM records).
...played guitar in "Odd Man Out" from 1987-1989 and released one album under (Beware records, a Thrasher magazine label).
...played bass once again in "Shovelhead" from 1991-1994 and released one CD (DYI under static records).
...played guitar in a band called "Soda". from 1995-1996. Released one cd and a few split singles under (Binge records and Sessions records).

Now currently playing in " The Faction" once again which reformed as a band again in 2000 and we are off to Scotland this thursday to play a show for a few days. We have recorded a four new songs about 2 years ago released them on various newer CD compliations, but never released the new four song e.p. on any label as of yet.

Music has been yet another outlet for me to express some creativity and learn something new and has been a fun journey as well over the years:)
...But it has always come second to my career as a Pro skateboarder!

Play Keyboards, Piano, Fiddle, Mandolin, Drums, Saw. Been in several regionally popular bands over a 25 year span. Just play at home now or if my neighbor needs a keyboard track layed down in his studio.

If there is ever a resugance in the demand for old white blues singers, I may be famous yet, but then I guess Tom Waites has that gig sewn up. [IMG]

yeah, I play the guitar, semi-proficient on the bass guitar/upright bass as well, and I sing. Me and Slowandlow63 got a band going, though we're still getting off the ground. Play mostly rockabilly, psychobilly, punk, blues...rock out old school stuff. My equipment:
-'93 Gretsch Nashville western, '97 PRS Custom 24, '89 Gibson SG standard, '93 Fender Strat plus deluxe, budget Fender acoustic
    -Marshall JCM900 dual reverb combo, 100w, 2 12"...and a JCM800 4 x 12" cabinet.

Sounds good, looks good, loud as hell, way more then I'd ever need

  27. I always tell people I "retired"
I tried to make a living as a musician for awhile...but found out I am more addicted to eating than I thought.
I started playing drums when I was 6.
Damn....I've been beating off for 26 years?!?!?!?!?
Good god I'm getting older by the second.

I'm down to just 3 old kits at the moment...which is where I'm staying.(although once a year I seem to think I want to sell everything)

1964 Slingerland kit in white satin flame
1964 Rogers Holiday in blue onyx
Late 40's Slingerland Radio King in Black Diamond pearl & 22 inch bass drum (sort rare for the time)

I think I may be as much of a drum geek as I am a car geek.
All kinds of wierd old parts, store displays....even a green sparkle drumhead!
    All kinds of wierd stuff....
