Customs Historic New England Kustom F-100 found

Well it's not that historic, to you maybe, but to me it is. It is my dad's truck. He's had it longer than he has had me. It was started back in '72. He drove it and worked on it till he painted it pearl yellow with flames. It saw many miles all over New England back in the '70's. About 1980 he took it off the road for a sub frame and engine swap. Then it sat, we moved to Florida in '82 and it sat even more.
In the late '80's he got it up and running again, and many more miles. Back then tinted primer had not hit south Fl. It was black, then purple primer, then black with purple scallops. Then he got sick in the early '90's and again the truck sat. About ten years ago we started working on it when he felt better. But other projects and life got in the way so it sat again. This time it became a catch all in the garage, and it slowly started to disappear.
Well the truck is now mine. Me and my dad spent Monday digging it out of the garage to move it over to my garage for work to start. I have been organizing all the parts and getting ready to start working on it. No customer projects for a little bit, time to work on my own stuff.

The shots when it was yellow was when it was on the road in Ct. The ones in black and purple primer are down here in Fl.

It will be that low. Still not sure about paint. It will be something wild. I have all the mechanicals to do, finish the body work. Most of the hard work is already done. I bought a new bed and I need to build a new roll pan for it. I am excited to get started.

WRONG. My dad already has a customer car lined up to go in there. It just means his wagon gets to live inside while customer cars are there.

thats bad ass, i wish i had an old family project like that. It just has to feel good to work on somethign your pops worked on years and years ago.

 

It does. I have been going to shows since I was in a car seat in this truck. It has been off the road too long, it will be nice to see it out again.

that thing is wicked cool (to use a new england phrase)...the hood/fender/rollpan setup looks great....what are your plans for headlight/grille treatment?

I love old customs. That's a good one.

 

It is a Datsun grill in all the pics. It was given to my dad when he was building the truck and he made it work. It was a new part at the time, so it never was in a Datsun. I am going to use it again, it is still in great shape. I am planning some kind of wild paint, just not sure what yet. I am trying to figure out if I want to get it on the road in primer to drive it, or go all the way and finish it in paint now.

That truck has a very cool stance and a very cool story to go along with it. There isn't anything better when building something, than having something to build that's from the family.

 

Love the way it sits - no bags there,huh? And the front end has a great look with the fog lites, and squashed grill surround. Was the chopped panel his too?
