Man, American ingenuity at it's best. I agree 100% with what havi said too. Kind of makes me rethink a lot of what I think I need or "have to have" when it comes to my projects, tools etc. That's thinking outside of the box and then some. There's also some pretty good engineering that when into thw whole deal. I too am curious about the rearend(s). Wonder what ever happened to that rig? Great story!!!!!!!!!
What ever it takes!!! I am not really into camping (haven't gone since I was a kid) but something about camping out there sound awesome. I envied those guys on the corner a bit every time I drove in from the Rainbow.

I'm betting that everyone didn't ride in the rig pictured but followed/lead in other vehicles. The truck/trailer was just used for the gear. At least that's my take. Whichever is true another great example of "hot rodding" your way out of a situation. I'm also thinking that this trip was a blast and probably produced some very memeorable stories. Frank
If you read the caption on the last picture it says the crew slept in the trailer. I guess they should've used a sedan body that way they'd have a "sleeper". all bs aside i wanna build one. DOT would throw a fit.

WTF? That is so hillbilly over the top, but I love it anyway. My suppressed redneck digs that. Yeah, 9 people? I guess they couldn't find an old bus to hotrod up instead. Begs the question, what is the Bonneville speed record for a full size bus anyway? That might be a class still wide open for some record breaking unless some of the LA road chases have already upped the mark too high. Well, at least they had company in the trailer. That must have been entertaining seeing headed down the road. But, back in those days, that wasn't that crazy. I grew on farms and even back in the 70's I saw plenty of people riding on the backs of farms trucks down the highway doing 50-60mph all the time in the summer. So, most probably never thought much of it. Probably just thought they were going to work a field with their hotrod semi. I am sure most were more amazed by the hotrod-ness of it than the 7 people riding in the trailer.
dam that is a sweeeeeet truck and it only took em 3 days to build........ now that is hot rodding at its finest!
3 days that group works fast!! they should have opened a shop together the turn around rate would have been legendary.
Yeah but because it's modified it wouldn't be allowed at Hershey! Those dudes had BALLS!! Great story Ryan. The good ol'days for sure.
You find the coolest shit. Can you imagine trying to do anything remotely like that today? You wouldn't get five miles from home before you got busted. Any HAMBers know any more about these guys? I assume they had something to try to set a record with them. What was it?
