Hello All, Here in Cincinnati there are not many places left to search for good barn finds let alone great patina. But none the less I have searched for a good project for my wife. Since she is a girl who loves trucks I have kept my eye out for a good project that she will enjoy and hopefully get a little greasy along the way. We were in Evansville this past weekend for the frog follies...A great show all around. While walking around she spotted the truck she had been looking for, amazingly she beat me to finding it as she is usually paying attention to other things. But this one definitely caught her eye as well as mine. This is a beautiful truck and as it turns out this truck is from Texas and has been well kept. Well enough about the story here are the pics, Hopefully you all enjoy!!
'54's are my favorite. The out of place knob on your dash looks 62-64 Chevy Nova. If its hooked up to a choke or vent door its probably a heater control cable from a Nova.
Good of you to mention the grill guard I wanted to see if anyone knew what is was for? I take it this was a necessity in Texas? And this is registered as a 55 1st gen, I have not gotten under the dash yet to see where everything is hooked up to or is not as the case maybe. Thanx a lot guys!
Sweet find. Brings back old memories. My uncle had a '54 with a nasty 389 Pontiac in it. 2 4's on a Offenhauser tunnel ram, ported heads, big cam, fender well headers, 4 speed...you get the idea...scarey ride for a kid (me) age 9. That's what hooked me on going crazy fast.
Can't tell from the pics if it is a 54 or a 55.1 as the hood emblems are missing and the pics do not show the drive shaft configuration. It has a torque tube drive shaft it is a 54 but if it has an open drive shaft you got a 55.1. Nice truck. Keep the grill guard.
They're used to push ANYTHING out of the way. If we would have had to push a cow out of the way more than once, dad would have had them loaded up and headed for the sale barn. Smash-Hit grille guards were a pretty popular accessory in the 50's. Grill guards are still a big business down here. Larry T
Come on Guys, there's a world of difference between a 54 and a 55s beside the drive line. The true 55s had a complete cab make over, didn't even look like the same truck. Iceman
55 First Series have open drive, a great advantage in ease of repair and maintenance. There are emblem and other small differences but the biggie is open drive.
Ha! I have the rear version, just pulled it from my 49 GMC. If you look closely, it bolts to the rear fenders, and I had to fill those damn holes. If you keep the front, and want the matching rear, you can have mine. Rich
