Event Coverage More "better late than never" Bonneville pic's.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OL 55, Aug 29, 2009.

  1. I spent the week in Bonneville and I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures. You've all seen the normal mix of stuff, so I'll show some of the salt from my point of view.......

Here's a few rods on the salt.

    Here's Mr. Tardel.

Here's too tall Ganahl looking at George Poteet's broken parts...

Here is what kept George from realizing his 400 MPH record run....

Back at the Nugget, the cars come to hang out......

  2. Then we headed over to the BBQ at the hanger.......

While nosing around at the hanger, we visited the "junk yard" nearby......

And when I'm visiting a new part of the country, I like to just take in the local vista's, and the salt has them in spades!
We headed out to the salt early one day to catch the sunrise. I guess we were in a hurry as we were stopped by the local constable. He was cool though and let us off with a warning.

We got to the salt and drove as far as we could to get a clear view of the sunrise...

    We waited and watched......

and you turn and see the salt all awash in the warm glow of the sun!

and the mountains were painted with the shadows of the clouds....

  3. And we even headed out into the dark night to check out the meteor showers one night. I could not believe all the stars you can see from that area of the country. So much light pollution here on the east coast. We never see skies like that here. I've never seen more shooting stars than I have on that night! Unfortunately, I have no pictures of that!:(

Of course no trip to the salt would be complete without visiting Wendover Will. He's living in his new spot on the west end of Wendover now. So here he is saying "goodby for now"!

Thanks for posting the cool photos. It's nice to see some of the local atmosphere, never seen that hanger before.

Did you drive out it the 40?

Must have been a great trip, I hope to get out there some day.

Great shots & the sunrise on the salt is pretty much un-describe-able (is that a word?). We had a quick trip this year and it was the first time that the wife has missed Bonneville.

  14. Great pics. Especially like the slammed COE and the B29 hanger pics and info. I lived in Vegas for 14 years, don't know why I never made the trip to the salt. Much closer than I am now.

Probably the most Speechless time on the salt is watching that sun rise. It truly is an experiance everyone should have while visiting the salt. Glad you captured it for others to see. Nice pictures.. Lucky

Short story about the hanger, it was where a secret team trained to drop the A bomb. Google "Enola Gay".
Wendover Will says goodby to you, but he will say hello to me in about three weeks. Thanks for the great trip in pictures.

  27. Not sure who the owner was, he was telling me about the car, but I didn't get his name.

Thanks Lucky. I was lurking around your spot in the pits, but you guys were busy and, well, I'm just not that good with the social graces when it comes to just walking up and introducing myself!
    My lurker shot........

Thanks Chuck, Rick Finch was going to introduce us, but we never got around to that either!
