I like how the cars actually look like what they are based on. Why don't they still do that? "Car Of The Future" my a**

It's too bad about all the drivers like Fireball Roberts that lost their lives in the cars, a "stock car" without today's safety features have no business out there trying to run 200 mph on superspeedways. NASCAR isn't perfect, but dog done it they are the biggest motorsport in the country.

You'd really like to see some stock Ford Fusions and Chev Impalas out there racing with their FWD layout? Come on, times changed.

I think Cale Yarborough had a great story in his book about this. Seems a guy hired Cale to drive a converted 55 Chevy drag car in that race, early injected sbc stroker, straight axle and all. Cale said the handling was absolutely frightening, all over the place in traffic but ran like a scalded dog alone, thanks to an unknown percentage of nitro. He qualified fifth fastest, passed for the lead soon after the re-start, then scattered the engine and ran over his own crankshaft on the next lap.

Cale was one cool dude, still is I'm sure. He gave some of his winnings back in the day to the school he went to as a kid.

I can't lie, I think I cried a little lol....Funny to think about a time when all those cars were "Just a car" and were treated like we would treat a '92 S10 today!

look at that, not 1 toyota in the race! ah, the good ol' days.

  28. My old ears are gone, but I think the narrator is Bud Lindeman (sp?). I think he was the same guy doing the old films on Dale Jr's show "Back in the Day"

That's because back then they were built from real cars.

Beats me, but it's perfectly ludicrous to refer to a Sprint Cup car as a "stock car" if you ask me.
