Projects Identify this coupe body!!

    Can anyone help me identify this coupe body. I didnt get any doors with it but I have a couple that will work though. I was thinking it was a early 30s mopar product but I have yet to nail it down!!

    It's got dual cowl vents, it's really large, much bigger than a Ford, and it's got some really cool belt lines and body lines on the rear pan and the visor.

    Help me out please!!

    Something bolted on here between the cowl vents, and looks like it went down the middle of the hood??

    1931 dodge. i think it is was just a body molding down the center
     
  3. I was thinking the same thing, but that Dodge body line is pressed in, not a bolt on bit.

    HHhmmmmm???????????

    Very close but 31 dodge don't have the flare fenders and a different belt line.

    and mine has squared off doors, not rounded!

    the cowl says dodge, but those quarters scream cheby... late 20's/mid 20's cheby

  10. If it's a Mopar it will have two holes on the right door post area of the cowl about midway between the beltline and the rocker, about 3" apart, where the serial tag was.

    What I can see of the photos in my book it shares some design elements with Dodge, Chrysler and DeSoto 1929 and 1930. 1931 loses the visors on all of them. A close up shot of the cowl side belt molding might help, the molding around the rear doors is distinctive too. But the shots I have are mostly too small or from the front 3/4 angle so I can't match that up.

    Edit: 1930 Essex pictures match up pretty good, I'd say, too.

    not nearly enough 30 essex hot rods around.

    I chopped my first car in 68...a 30 Essex coupe. I recall the peak on the upper quarters as well as that detail line moulding running top to bottom, right behind each door window. I thought I was brilliant in the way I planned the chop and got those details to still line up:D

    ..but alas, my dad could not borrow the torches from work, so i never did weld it back up.:confused:


    The serviceman on leave who bought it said : "the next time you see that car, the front wheels will be way up in the air" ...that never happened either :rolleyes:

    EDIT: I just don't recall the "peak" in the middle horizontal beltline..that arrow shaped thing. Is there any chance it is a more upscale car family related to Essex, was it Hudson?

    the detail on the beltline is kind of throwing me off. i thought 30 and 31 had a rounded line, without the peak on the middle. the verticle line behind the door and the flare over the rear wheelwells does scream hudson/essex though. i dont think 29 had the flare over the wheel wells.

    could be a cool rod, what are the odds of finding the rest of the tin for that car, just asking cause you don't see alot of them around.

    I dig it and wouldn't mind using most of that body to bolster the flimsy condition of the various Essex parts I have laying around.
