I want my car to eventually have a 4 speed when I get it running. I plan on a 283 for power. Right now I have a line on a 4 speed Saginaw that needs a new input shaft bearing for a hundred bucks. Should I jump on it and buy it? How much is the repair gonna run me?

Do you have a hundred bucks? Is it your daily driver?

I don't know how much those trannys are worth, but a new bearing should be pretty cheap.

I'm still collecting parts for the build. Yeah I could drop the hundred now. I know it's not a Muncie, But is it any good?

I'd think it's worth it. buy it. 100 bucks, if you find something else you can sell it or save it for your next work of speed and cool.

  9. If you're building the T in your avator in a traditional style with a 283, use the Saginaw. I don't understand how the T-5 trans are so popular with the traditional build bunch. T-5's are as out of place as disc brakes and alternators.

I would ask some more questions; "How do you know it needs the bearing?" Unless the tranny is hundreds of miles away the best way is to open it up. $100 is a lot for a boat anchor.
