Just read the whole thread as well, the truck is looking really good. Not that my opinion matters, but I have to agree that the grill shell looks better trimmed down, and the hood shortened.

  3. Thanks guys!!
I'll section the grill on the weekend, and try to make the hood shorter ;-)

I really like the Idea about the group!!
We could discuss and share experiences about building our uwn tool instead of buying fancy stuff and all this practical stuff...

Like the other day I made my own inner bearing puller for my front brakes.
It wasn't too bad, but I had to put some thinking into it befor I got it...

So if you go ahead and open this group, I'd be glad to join!!

First time builders that put all their work, sweat and blood into "THE ONE" build, unite!!!

BTW: Isaac, I really enjoy the 2 florida builds!!

  8. So here is the link to the new group: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=377

Dave: not sure if I had seen the virgin builders yet, but will check it out!!
Paul: the bed is sitting in our kitchen in the moment. still in the boxes...
can't wait to have a house with a garage ;-)

Thx all for your kind words!!

I'll be meeting with Taff and Jay (61cad) later today and have a good time talking about cars!!! Will be a good experience to see a running Hot Rod again. I think that pushes my motivation for the weekend!!!

  9. Here's my steering column. Finished minus 3 holes and some paint ;)

    i like the olds

  11. Martin, just read your whole build thread. Truck is looking amazing! I cant wait to get mine that far along. I really like the steering set up on that and if i cant find a sprint car box when it comes time to do mine I will do it this way.

  12. Thx guys!

    Here is today's work...
Sectioned the grill 1 inch, height looks much better now!!

There is some other thing new in this picture too... Just wondering if someone finds it ;)

    Put the steering colum in:
and found, that I have to move the mounts of the steering box, in order to get it straightened out...

And I also started the support of the floor:

    It's on tomorrow again :D

  13. Looks like you switched out the valve covers and added your skull shift knob? the floor structure is lookin good. are you going to make the tranny cover removable or a all one piece floor?

  14. You got my respect Dave ;)
Seems like it was real easy to find... Have to try harder next time :D

The tranny cover will we welded it, but not the one small piece where the shifter comes out of the floor.
That's gonna be the hardest one, since I don't have any sheet metal shaping tools!!

  15. Nice work, Gonna be a good looking truck.

Great work! What angle is your steering column set at? Just curious I am about to increase mine a little.

    JJ

  17. Martin you dont need a bunch of fancy tools to shape sheet metal. Join a couple of the sheet metal groups. Allmetlatshaping.com metalmeet.com and metalshapers.org. You can find all kinds of low buck easy to build tools and tons of tech and how to's on making floors and tranny tunnels.

  18. Thanks guys, I'll check the sites out and improve my shaping skills ;-)

Jimmy, I am not sure about the angle, but I also increased mine...
Actually that's what I did yesterday:

Here is the "before" pic again, for comparison:

Cut the dash about 3/4 of an inch...

And that's what it looks like from the outside now:

Can't wait until the engine does the "wrooom, wrooom" noise ;-)

looks like you changed the shifter knob also!?

great build thread, I used Dreadman's steering box "how to" tech post to do mine in my 29 Coupe, but haven't finished it yet, your thread has inspired me to get back to work on it.

great job, looking forward to the updates

Hey Martin, have you checked out Retro61's truck..... you're trucks have a lot in common.

    [IMG][IMG]

  23. Jimmy, it's the regular Grant style steering wheel with 15" diameter.
The first picture of my post is already the after pic. That's how it will stay, I am not planning on changing the steering any more ;-)
Or do I get something wrong about the "1 more"??

cvstl, I'll make a video of the engine!! Can't wait to fire it up!! but I have to wait for my new headers ;-(
I haven't seen retros truck yet, but it looks real good on these small photos ;-)
Is he one of the crossmembers?? Maybe we could get some bigger pics??

doc, I really appreciate Dreadman's build thread too...
There is so much awesome work in it, I love it!!

  24. So whats the update? get anything done?

Great build. I would suggest making the floor and tranny cover removable. You may have already decided but later down the road changing out a tranny or clutch or U joint makes it much easier. Tranny cover?? Look at a semi truck garage or junk yard for a large muffler. Pie cut it to fit.

  27. Sorry guys, no pics...

Worked on the chop and finished one half of the roof.

Then we found a new house, and I spend most of the time planning to move...
Hope we can do that on Labor Day Weekend.
But we'll see. After that I can focus on the truck again!!

And once we're settled in, you'all are welcome to stop by when you're in the area!!
