It does give the car a space-agey look.

 

It was a style of the times and even though i'm not crazy about them..i can't imagine that car without...they fit the show car look the car has in my opinion..

Just imagine how much better this car would look if it was channeled the width of the frame... and had a more conventional set of pipes. There is NOTHING wrong with this car BUT that wierd ass side treatment. Gary

I like that car, but that treatment looks like what it is, flat bits of aluminium stuck to the side b/c the bottom part of the body was rusty..........it ruin's the car.

 

Concur, I never liked this car, way over the top...would have been ok without the fins...I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their taste, but ....

 

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm just noting that yes it's over the top, but that's the point. It's supposed to be.

I think it's cool as hell, on that car. It is an icon to the 60's show rod. I don't imagine when Chili did this he was concerned with what any of us here was going to think some 45 years later.
It would be my privledge to be the caretaker of that car, and no, I wouldn't change a thing. I'm a little weird like that...

Wasn't it done to hide some nasties in the body? I remember reading they had to cut away a shit load of the lower body and this is what they came up with to fill the gap.
I think with 34 seconds more thought they could have came up with something much better looking.
BUT, as others have said it is an icon car and apart from the 'wings' its a great looking car IMHO.....

The side things are pretty funky, but the rest of the car kicks ass and has for quite some time now..

 

That thing makes the East coast cars folks ridicule look good.

 

Would look better to me without the cheese graders but it is what it is.
