Hi folks, just acquired an unchopped 5 window deuce highboy project, oem Ford body and frame. I'm going for a traditional fenderless look with early hemi /4spd power. It's got no hood or fenders and it probably isn't gonna get any either. I am really struggling with deciding how much to chop it? Figured I'd get some feedback from you folks. I've been thinking 3 1/2" all the way around lately. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I actually kinda like 5-windows unchopped. Maybe it is just me bet there is a black one from Houston that I saw recently that is unchopped running a hood but no fenders, tall skinny blackwalls and black steel wheels and the thing just looked perfect... You see so many chopped bodies that it is kinda refreshing to see one that is unchopped...
As a 6 foot 2 inch tall ... senoir citizen I would NEVER chop a original 32 Ford coupe. I suggest you build the coupe, get it on the road and drive it some. Then, after driving it for a few months ... you want to chop it ... THEN CUT IT FYI ... my 3W is not real easy to see out of and it has not been cut. HAVE @ IT ... but I would never cut a coupe. Not enough room in them STOCK ... IMHO.
There is no perfect chop. It is completely dependent on personal preference as well as the way the rest of the car is being built.
It had a little taller tire on the rear, a little shorter tire on the front, no caps or rings and a hood complete with hood sides. Other than those little differences it pretty much looked the same. Oh, and I think the interior was done in distressed brown leather instead of red...
It's my guess that no chop, channelled about 4 inches, would be perfect if you took a world-wide poll. Blind poll, with a dozen different chops, and question would be "Which do you like the best"?
my PROJECT is chopped 3 1/2 inches. i wish it were only 2 1/2 inches. i think 2 1/2 inches looks best.
With everything getting chopped there must be a lot of leftover pieces that a guy could use to un-chop a too radical - for personal preference - chop.
My first 5W deuce coupe was chopped 5" and I loved it! My last 5W was too pristene to whack. If you want mild that still looks like it came from Henry that way, I suggest doing a 2 1/4-2 1/2 inch slice.
that`s funny, me and my dad carried all the pieces that we cut out of mine to some of the swap meets in California in the 80`s and wrote on the box " Un-Chop your top kit 1932 5 window coupe $1295.95 " it got some laughs and some confused looks hahaha I guess I finely threw them out ? and un-chop should not be a word
Friend of mine ran his deuce 5 window with a 2 1/2 inch chop for the last 15 years, and is redoing the car and took another inch out for the new build, looks bitchin. My last one was wacked 4 and it also looked good.
