Snagged a couple '36 International trucks!

Nice score. I have always thought that '36 Binders have great styling. Chopping improves it even more. Not sure about the visor idea though.

 

I traveled the 300 miles through the mountains in 7 hours, but I decided I'm not interested in this one. Turns out not to be a pickup, but a full size truck that the truck body rotted out and has a ford rear on it, no glass. two sets of leaf springs, one of which has at least 12 leaves.

 

cool man-I was looking for some old binder trucks-I work at the International dealer here in Davenport right on I-80-I have found that Macs Ratz-in southwest Iowa seems to have the market on IH truck bodies -I would keep the IH frame for all the right reasons-sell the S10 to a STREET rodder

Bitchen!!! I would make one of them a tow truck, but I really dig old tow trucks.

 

Nice! Looks like the left one has a mount for a snowplow.

Here's one I sold 2 yrs. ago.Alittle odd,it had a Pinto 4 banger w/automatic ,firebird steering column.Just alot of odds & ends thrown together.Previous owner really cobbled it up.Good sheet metal but the rest needed a total rebuild....Giz'

 

Got 'em home today. Lots more rust than I could tell with the weeds the first time up. Still useable, it's just gonna take more than I'd hoped.

Some cool features are these little parking or turn lights on top of the headlights:



They have glass lenses, and look pretty cool.

Also there are two of these old glass bead relctors on the back, and the cool turn signal (broken, of course):

I boogered up my hands on the buffer the day after getting these home, so progress has been limited. I finally got into the shop the past few days to get some work done, though.

Those are my favorite trucks. I was actually looking for one of those when I was going to build the spacetruck.

...and Richard if I were from Bolivia I would take anything I could get. ha ha ha. It might not have been a half ton, but all the cabs are the same. The spacetruck started as a ton truck. I even used the stock front springs, just took out half of them.

 

I also bought a 36 Binder. There are 2 more complete and 1 cab left. I would be glad to sell the extras for the right price.

 

I hope to take my Scout to the Hose Co #4 show tomorrow, but we'll see. I had thumb surgery today, so I may relax at home tomorrow.

 

I agree on the green and black combo,and full fendered look. That's what I am going with on my 28 chevy delivery. I also think your fenders with the slope, and not an actual wheel opening design, can be used no problem. But the s 10 frame will be bulky looking under this vehicle. And you might want to take another look at the original frame front section, and part of the back to reuse. I know the rails are kinda tall. But it might suprise ya how easy it would be to use it. Any way kool vehicles and even kooler projects...John

 

Great find and nice to know they are in good hands. But I have to wonder... how can those tires still hold air, when the tires they sell now blow out, tread separates, rubber cracks and rots and have to be replaced when they get more than five years old. I guess thats progress.

Oh and thanks for reminding me, I'm going to put the shield back on my grinder after grinding off the top of my knuckles yesterday.

 

Yeah, well...it's 3-1/2 weeks after I whacked my hands. I went to the hand reconstruction specialist today and had minor surgery on my left thumb. Still fightin' with this crap allmost a month after the fact.

Count me in favor of preserving the rust. 'specially that dashboard, ARE ALL MEN SEATED? Call it what you want.

 

I can't believe how straight those bodies are.

Around here, work trucks get the hell beat out of them.

Seen a few old Binders of that vintage, but they look a lot more like used tin foil than trucks. The concrete companies and quarries around here are not that kind to their equipment, that's for sure.

 

For all the IH fans out there my friend has a pretty nice 35 or 36 1 1/2 ton (I think) IH for sale. It is pretty complete, the key is in the ignition and the motor turns over and his price is reasonable. If anyone is interested PM me and I will hook you up. It is in NW Nebraska. The second pic shows the long hood, and the third is the short hood. I'm diggin' the long hood for sure. I cut 3.5" from the top all around.

My question for you guys is this: What's wrong with raking the windshield back rather than stretching the top to make up the difference created by the chop?

don't know if this helps or not. I chopped this one 4 and a half inches and then layed the windshield back.AND IT DOES LOOK BETTER THAT WAY..........HOPE YOUR HANDS GET BETTER. I DON'T HAVE A SHIELD ON MY GRINDER EITHER! YEA I KNOW...I'M A DUMBASS!

 

If by anychance you have an extra driver's door top, please let me know! I'm desperate!!

 

I'm leaning seriously toward slitting my A pillars and leaning the bottom half back, and the top half forward and reattaching where they meet. I'll get the cab tacked together, then follow suit with the doors, making sure they fit the A pillar right. Is there anything I'm missing with this plan? It seems to me like it would be easier than spreading the top and having that 5' log sheetmetal weld to contend with.

 

I think leaning the windshield is a great idea, but the s10 chassis is another story. I considered that for a similar project and did a bunch of searching on here and came away with the impression that the upper control arms and the fenders would want to occupy the same space.
