I was at the Long Beach motorcycle swap this sunday, and I managed to pick this out of a pile of parts.I'm pretty sure it's the real deal.the signature looks right on.I believe it says Encino under the signature.if I'm not mistaken,he was working out of there in the mid 50's,early 60's. before I gently cleaned it. after.the colors are still very bright.you can see light checking in the lacquer. it would be cool to here about other dutch finds....ONLY DUTCH FINDS!!
Very cool ! I assume the guy you got it from didn't notice the signature ? ( I am pretty sure that is the genuine article !)
I would say by looking at the style of the flames and the signature, you have the real deal very cool man........................
Hey laid55,... Don't tell us (unless you had to mortgage the house for it),... otherwise it will just give us reason to hate you even more !
naw looks like a fake to me but hey, I'll give you a couple of bucks for it, just for laughs, heh,heh,heh...
believe me,your better off not knowing.but I can assure you,the dude had no clue of the significance of this piece.I couldn't tell if it was because he didn't see the name or if he just didn't have a clue. I had a gut feeling from about 20 feet away.total tunnel vision. as soon as I picked it up,I started searching for the signature.the thing is so cool! Hey laid55,... Don't tell us (unless you had to mortgage the house for it),... otherwise it will just give us reason to hate you even more ! I wouldn't want you to hate me more!
I think regardless of the price/ value of it the really important thing is that it fell into someone's hands that would appreciate it and its significance. Can you imagine what could have become of it in the wrong hands? Could have easily had all that history sanded away or painted over. Jay
The first thing I thought when I say the flames was that it had a good chance of being the real deal...good for you for paying attention and making the purchase at what I am sure was a tremendous deal...way to go
So whats an original Von Dutch like this go for in the open market place to a buyer and seller who know what it is?
I think it is for real;mostly by the shape of the flames.Very reminiscent of the Bruce 300SL.Glad to see someone got it who can really appreciate it.
