You have read that title correctly. 50's Rock&Roll legend Chuck Berry will be performing at our 13th annual Shifters/VLV car show Saturday April 3rd, 2010.
Backing him up will be the Viva Las Vegas house band that one might say is an all star group of talented musicians - Shorty on stand up Bass,Carl Sonny Leyland on piano, Ashley Kingman on rhythm guitar, and Bobby Tremble on drums. You might recognize some of these names as band members of Big Sandy or Deke Dickersen. Considering the fact that Chuck Berry normally has cheesy 70's "Doobie Brothers" type of back up bands, this may well be the best he has sounded in decades!

For those returning or attending for the first time, be rest assured that our car show will be filled with quality as well as quantity.
    Starting this year:
All cars that register for the show must email a photo for pre approval.

Fenderless cars made after 1934 must be pre approved by sending us a picture first .

    No tubbed rear ends .

*All wheel barrels, skate boards, or Ice chests with engines in them will be denied! (You real Hambers know what we're talkin about).

This started off as a 50's Rock & Roll music festival with a traditional car show , and its going to be that way once again !

Most of you saw quite a bit of the quality cars that attended last year. We guarantee that will double if not triple this year.

    Other special attractions at VLV.
Notcho & his giant TIKI returns
over 75 vendors at the car show - over 200 inside.
over 50 bands and close to 25 rockin Deejays.
    Burlesque show.
    TIKI Pool party.
Gasser reunion at the car show.
    Top Fuel dragster returns.
    WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN
Special guests and much much more. Hope to see a lot of you there.

    Take care, Shifters

Hitting VLV then Lonestar would be a dream come true. I'll start asking around (wife & boss) and see what I can come up with. Thanks dude, anything cold is fine by me!!!
Any chance I can get to get up and close to your 3 Window is fine by me also. Seen it as GNRS and fell pretty hard for that car.

Mabey Chuck can reinact when he punched Keith Richards square in the face. Heck I'd pay to see that.

    CHUCK BERRY

Still rocking the Blueberry Hill Club in St. Louis, at least once a month.

What have you done lately at 82 ....?

I skipped the past two VLV happenings with no regrets after going for several years
but the 2010 version sounds irresistable.

I know a lot of guys on this site slag the show but it is the best weekend of the year in my opinion. Room Booked, Car there unless something unforseen happens, and ready to have a killer time again. Wish it was sooner....

I saw a couple of hours worth of video of the bands done last year by Gretsch, the guitar company. The bands alone would make this event. The cars are the icing.

Ashley Kingman, wow...one of the best there is.

  24. Sounds like a great plan Axle! Chuck is the real king of rock n roll! (sorry Elvis) Here is a pic I took when I took my mum and dad to see him in the late 70's in New Zealand. Lucky we went to the first show because he failed to turn up for the second show. Sorry about the water damage. I hate to think about what I must have lost in that box that got ruined.

  25. dig it. Chuck puts on a good show. I last saw him in MI maybe 10-12 years ago with Big Barn Combo backing him up. It was a triple billed show, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Bill Haley's Original Comets.

    it ruled.

I heard a funny story from a promoter friend of mine. Chuck Berry was hired to play a show. I guess Chuck won't walk on stage unless he has the fee up front, in cash, in his hand.

Well, one particular show, he strolled in not 1 minute before the curtain, and the back up band had no idea what the set was for the evening. One of the fellas in the band asked Chuck "What are we going to play?"

Chucks reply? "Fucking Chuck Berry songs!"

and with that, Chuck strolled on stage and lit right into Maybelline...

I love that, and i believe it. It was always rumored that in the 70's and 80's he would just go on stage and play what he felt and IF the house band could keep up Chuck would throw in an extra grand for them. He's funny but he is one of the all time greats.

Kev, that pictures rules....sort of the "My Dingaling" era but he was rockin !

Glad to read that a lot of you are giving VLV another chance. You won't regret it. Thanks for all the PM's !

  27. If it's an outdoor venue where they can't check for video cameras, Chuck Berry will stop the performance anytime he sees a video camera.

Well you just made my birthday a little better! I turn 40 on 4/4 and have told my wife, me and a bunch of friends are flying to Vegas to have a good time and most of us will hit Viva and she actually said yes! I'm just waiting on the next air fare war and tickets will be bought.

Tickets bought, room booked. I've been wanting to go since 2005, so it's about time. :D

  30. I saw Chuck Berry about 35 yearsago, at one of the Dick Clark Shows at Magic Mountain in Ca. so how come I'm a cripled up old fart and he is still rockin'.
CB and Winfield must be drinkin from the same fountain of youth...
