Hi All, just like to hear stories of cool finds at wrecking yards or yard sales. The best thing I scored so far was a pair of 15x10 Torque thrusts that were stashed in the back of a van, I ended up getting them for 40.00, that was sweet. I also found an old shoe box with some real interesting polaroid pictures:D. See ya, JOKER JASON

  7. I ignored a car all summer walking past it along one of the main paths through the junkyard. I knew it was a '53 or '54 Buick, but it was also upside down with the front clip off and the motor, trans, and front suspension long gone.

Finally right close to the end, when they brought scrappers into the place to clear it on out, I stopped to tie my boot and I see on the side of it a badge... Skylark...

Yep, a '53 Skylark. $100 later it was on a trailer on the way home to me. Even in crap shape I made a disgusting profit on that car.

I found a 70 Hemi Roadrunner that had been rolled and in the junkyard for years. Motor and trans were long gone but all the vin numbers were in place. The car was repairable by todays standards so I gave $600 for it. Made one phone call to a Mopar collector and sold it for $5000 plus he paid me to deliver it.
I also saved a 34 Chevy Master sedan from a junkyard for $100. Even found and talked to the wife of the last owner who sold the car to the yard in 1961.
Found a $20 gold certificate in a book that was in the trunk of an old car.

So I open this hood on a old Studebaker Hawk and there, sitting in the battery box, was the largest Group 24 brown rabbit I ever saw. I think I was more surprised than he was.

LOL...you got me there. It's good to see a sense of humor here...

Let's see, I've found an early 1900's Walking Liberty Silver Dollar, a set of closed chamber Mopar 915 heads in a trunk, one of the very first fax machines ever made, a Surfin' Safari 8-track, and a NIB Mitchel Garcia spinning reel.

Scored a 302 (Z-28) intake last weekend for 50 bucks on craigs list! The guy didn't know what he had. He bought a motor for his roundy round and didn't want this intake.

I once needed a pair of '52 Buick wheel covers.

When I entered the salvage yard; on a huge pile of wheel covers,
five feet from me, were a pair of like new '52 Buick wheel covers!
$4.00 and 5 minutes later they were mine and I was on my way.

I hate searching for needles in haystacks!

  21. How about a 426 Hemi marine intake, with a Holley carb bolt pattern, buried in the sand at a yard north of me. God only knows what else may be out there, the place is pretty much closed up and cleaned out now. Sold that and bought some Max Wedge parts with the dough.

Many yrs ago while working in a yard, we found the remains of what looked to be a rather large rats nest of food wrappers, soda cans, beer cans, whiskey bottles and a assortment of odds and ends - but at the bottom of it all was human remains. Other times we found a old H.D. UL engine in the trunk of a '52 Chevy, a brand new set of finned aluminum heads for a flathead [still wrapped in the old cloth paper] in a old '49 Ford, an old 32 cal pistol under the seat of a truck,an old double barrel shotgun stuck in the back portion of a truck seat, all kinds of silver coins and even a small roll of old $2 dollar bills [50 of them] but I think the best out of all of the stuff was a complete Whizzer that we found mixed in with a dump truck loaded with old bicycles and parts which included some old Indian bicycles.

Stripped '67 Shelby GT-350. Tried to buy it and was told it had been sold. Backstory was that it had been stripped by the owner and reported stolen. Collected the insurance and bought the car back from the yard. Then re-installed all the stripped parts. I guess insurance fraud was easier then.
